Anti-Semitism? Youth Soccer Team Food Poisoned in Bulgaria
Entire team poisoned at Bulgarian soccer association facility, Israeli soccer head suspects attack after Hebrew singing for Shabbat. The entire Maccabi Petah Tikva youth soccer team came down with severe food poisoning over the weekend while in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, causing all members of the team to be hospitalized.
Several of the players are still hospitalized while others have been released, reports Sport 5, noting the team was in the country for training.
The incident started last Friday at facilities connected with the Bulgarian soccer association, where the players came together for a joint dinner.
Israeli soccer association chairman Avi Luzon hinted to the channel that the team's Friday night Shabbat kiddush dinner may have sparked an anti-Semitic backlash in which the players' food was poisoned.
"We have a feeling that someone there didn't like that the players sang in Hebrew on Friday," said Luzon. "We asked that the Bulgarian (soccer) association investigate it urgently."
On Saturday morning every single member of the team complained of severe vomiting and diarrhea, and several of them even fainted. All of them were taken to the emergency room, and several staff members went to buy food for the players outside of the facility so as to avoid the risk of suffering additional food poisoning.
"The players fell hard one after the other, and filled up the emergency room," said Luzon. "From what I understood, it was really frightening. I hope that tomorrow morning they will be able to get on the plane to Israel and to continue the (health) checks."
"We won't let this pass in silence, and I will ask for a thorough investigation, because this was a facility of the (Bulgarian soccer) association."

An entire team all comes down with food poisoning
Its plausible it was deliberate.
Hence best to keep an open mind and then what if it was deliberate Sassy, would you not want those who committed this act caught?

Yea, well it'll be deliberate then why people in our hotel in Malta ended up with food poisoning and I was in a Maltese hospital!

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
Poor deflection.
Again is it plausible or not plausible?
If you cannot rule out this being deliberate, then you have to accept it is possible that it was deliberate.

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
It's a bloody sight more plausible that they had a kosher meal made just for them that wasn't kept at the right temperatures etc and gave them food poisoning. Good grief!

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
So in other words you cannot rule it out if it was deliberate.
So in other words its very plausible, added to that it effected the whole team.
Next you would have to see what each actually ate and if they had differences it what they had to eat

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
And you can't rule out it wasn't.
Do give over, you are making yourself look as mad as them. And it would have affected the whole team, because the whole team would have had the kosher meal, which, if it had not been prepared properly, would have given them food poisoning.
Do you see ghosts under the bed as well!

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
I never said I could not rule out it was not deliberate.
I have rightly stated that it is plausible so its very daft to try and rubbish something if it is plausible.
Now I suggest you get some tissues and wipe that egg off your face.

No idea Sassy, but like I say you cannot rule out this being deliberate and I am smilling at your silliness here.
Best you check it has been ruled out if deliberate before posting and making absurd claims.

I should imagine it will be possible to rule out deliberate poisoning. Hopefully they were able to analyse left over food to find the bug.

I think history shows they have been one of the most persecuted in history.
Maybe you should tell that to victims of the Holocaust they are the "best" victims.
Let me know how you get on.

ermm...the holocaust was what 70 odd years ago???
and they STILL make themselves the victim of every percieved slight, real or imaginary.
NO we should not " forget" the holocaust.....or its causes
BUT its about time thet jews realised that they are NOT "special" or immune to criticism and that not EVERY blasted thing that happens is due to some innate "anti semetism"
and they STILL make themselves the victim of every percieved slight, real or imaginary.

So after the Holocaust we then had over 800,000 Jews displaced from their homes in Arab lands.
Sorry can you show me anywhere here that has anythingt o do with criticism with Israel?
Er no person should be criticised for being Jewish or Israel, that is racism
So you may want to rethink your point because you are saying a person can be criticized based on race or ethnicity classification.

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
No I'm not,
I did NOT say that they should be criticised for being a jew....
i actually said that they are not above criticism by being a jew.
call a white, unkempt stinky sweaty english man a tramp and thats ok
call a unkempt stinky sweaty jew a tramp and you are "anti semetic"
call an unkempt stinky sweaty Muslim a tramp and you are "a religiuous bigot"
call an unkempt stinky sweaty "man of colour" a tramp and you are a "racist"
etc etc etc....
why...becasue all the last 3 are experts at the "victim" game....
so much so that no criticism is allowed without the labeling of the one criticising....
If i didnt know better didge ...I'd reckon you were suffering a serious case of angst.....

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
Absurd again.
They should be criticised for beliefs or actions, not by being a Jew themselves.
You then use poor terminology to justfiy this to others.
Again its about being critical of actions and beliefs, not what a person is classified by their ethnicity or what we define as race.
Again be critical of Zionism
Be critical of Judaism
Be critical of Islam
Be critical of Christianity.
All are ideologies
Cut out the personal crap eh, it just proves you are losing the debate

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
actually. if you think about what I have just said then you would realise that the criticism is against the "anti racist machine"
and you are still not reading what I am saying, I have just said they should not be criticised for being a jew ....
but being a jew does not put them outside of beiung criticised
If you criticise a jew for is actions or beliefs (where these are wrong/harmful) then you WILL be lableled an anti semnite....regardless.....
criticise the religion and likewise....
besides...isnt a person who holds to harmful beliefs in the face of all evidence to the contrary open to criticism?
and in THAT case would you not be criticising the person for being a "whatever"
the million dollar question.....are a man and his beliefs "seperable" and is criticism of one also criticism of the other?

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
So after all that, we agree.
I am critical and views and actions, no matter who the person is and it is wrong to hide behind a classification, but your view to say "best" victims I found in very poor tasted, when antisemitism is a massive problem throughout the world and a certain amount of this hate stems from actions by the Israeli governemnt. I am all for criticism to any beliefs and actions
So back to the debate.
Is it possible this was deliberate?
We have at the beginning of August a highly volatile football game in the same country and city, where fans chase players of an israeli team. Could this have a connection? Who knows its circumstantial evidence after all but further rasies the question of if it is plausible

Re: Now even a food bug is anti-semetic
it is i suppose possible and as ever we will have to await the outcome of any enquiry,
if it is deliberate then something needs doing, especially since the certain bulgars seem to be more than a little bit unfriendly towards israelis
if it was merely food poisoning they are going to look rather silly
