Tom Daley is to spend Christmas with his boyfriend after introducing him to his family for the first time.

The Olympic diver, 19, has invited Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black to join his family festivities despite a “mixed reaction” from some relatives when he came out earlier this month.

He introduced 39-year-old Dustin to mum Debbie and brothers William and Ben over dinner at his home in Plymouth last week, and it went so well he was invited for Christmas too.

An insider said: “This is a big step for Tom. He’d promised his family he’d spend Christmas with them and has loads of plans with his pals so now he’ll get to have Dustin with him.”

ITV Splash! star Tom revealed he was dating a man in a YouTube message earlier this month.

Tom will be back on the celebrity diving show next month and contestants this year are understood to include former rugby player Austin Healey, Corrie’s Keith Duffy, eighties pop star Paul Young, the Saturdays’ Una Healy, Hollyoaks actress Gemma Merner, comedienne Jenny Eclair and comic and presenter Patrick Kielty.
