It's technically possible for each state to replace fossil fuel energy with entirely clean, renewable energy, experts say. A new report is the first to outline how each of the 50 states can achieve such a transition by 2050. The 50 individual state plans call for aggressive changes to both infrastructure and the ways we currently consume energy, but indicate that the conversion is technically and economically possible through the wide-scale implementation of existing technologies.

Wow! 95 percent of Texas' energy needs could be generated just with two forms of solar power, on shore wind farms and offshore wind farms.

NONSENSICAL claims like that are often seen to slip through in posts on forums by those with zero knowledge or training in the field...

WHETHER it be in alternative technologies, scientific "breakthroughs", quack medicine and alternative therapies, 'end of the world' scenarios, or fad diets and exercise regimes..

GIVE the USA a century or two and it might be drawing 70-80% of it's energy needs from "renewable sources", BUT stumbling blocks such as corporate interests, widespread national conservatism and resistance to change [just look at how long it's taking California to respond to their current drought conditions !], and such oddities as "state rights" and "individualism" infusing the redneck and evangelist states who consider any new suggestions as "communistic" and "nanny state" threats to their imagined "freedoms".

ALL THE SAME, good ol' Benny does have a valid point, there...

TEXAS probably uses about double the total energy consumption each year, then what we do down here in Australia..
[ONE need only look at those petrol-powered "pickup trucks" that every second Texan seems to drive (where the rest of the world went over to diesel or LPG a couple of decades ago); and how many of their houses are air-conditioned as a matter of course ?].

It WILL take a lot more than a couple of solar farms and a couple of wind and tidal systems, to replace their current reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear energy. sunny
