Well, it's un-nerving to me, Fuzzy; that we've had so many - many gifted musicians/artists and who knows how many other entertainers that have because of their notoriety and wealth can purchase a Doctor to provide what they get addicted to Evil or Very Mad

And the number & millions of Medicare & Medicaid fraud that is caught {that we hear about} is generally done by doctors and their clinics!

Prescription drugs are a worse problem than illegal drugs, the amount of people who are hooked on them is huge and they can't give them up, not only because of the addiction, but because of the pain that caused them to take the drugs in the first place.

Our government has finally taken a firm stand about Opioids and instead of allowing doctors to hand out a 3 months prescription - they're only allowed a 3 week prescription at the most and the lowest dosage possible and 'NO PHONE CALLS' for refills - the patient has to be seen by their original attending physician prior to obtaining a refill and that has to be a original written prescription - hand delivered to the pharmacy.
No more mailing - no more faxes - no more emails ...prescription processes allowed. Mad

I'm sorry for your loss Sassy. It's sad when a parent has see their child die.

This kind of nerve damage is not only generally irreversible. What most people don't realise is that it's degenerative.

Surgery in most cases is not an option as you risk damaging nerves even further. In most cases, a lifetime of pain killers is the only choice.

There needs to be more education of repeatedly extending your lumbar spine and lower body impact. As well as other movements that affect the spine. Surely dancing in this way or many sport movements is not worth this lifetime of pain.

Thanks Zack. Hers started with a broken elbow, they pinned through the main nerve, then she got necrosis in it. It started CRPS and she was never out of pain for 25 years, from 12 onwards.

I certainly think that people need to understand that opioids can be powerful drugs. Prescription codeine is much more potent than the stuff you can buy over the counter, for example. However, there are warnings in the package insert which say it should only be taken for a few days - that includes the stuff you can buy in Boots. Maybe doctors should be telling patients to go easy on it though.

I've taken prescription codeine, and I needed it at the time, but I was careful only to take it if it was absolutely necessary.

I'm just conjecturing here but having 2 neighbors that are epileptic {one guy in his 50's has gran-maul seizures and one little girl that has just turned 10 has silent internal seizures - her major organs will stop functioning} both have different degrees of severity with their types of seizures.

Could it be that Prince had been having 'silent seizures' and his staff/doctors weren't catching the systems and his prescriptions pain pills were masking the severity of his failing condition?
The main reason I'm thinking that, is the month leading up to this episode when he went unconscious on his plane >

Two weeks before he died, Prince canceled concerts in Atlanta, saying he wasn't feeling well. He played a pair of makeup shows April 14 in that city, and then came the emergency landing in Moline. He was scheduled to perform two shows in St. Louis but canceled them shortly before his death.

They finally gave my mom 'Fentanyl' pain patches: her spine and bust sacrum and then eventual bed ridden made taking even crushed Oxycodone useless after several months.
Fentanyl pain patches were the only thing that helped ease those horrid back muscle spasms she'd get!

So he was taking fentanyl and Percocet, both of which are opioids. Not a good idea.

The report says he died of fentanyl toxicity, which could have been a one-off overdose, or it could have been some kind of accumulation of the stuff. It was probably an overdose, considering the rapid manner of his incapacitation.

Well the only thing which is clear is that he died of fentanyl toxicity, and that it was an accident in the opinion the medical examiner. I'm sure there will be questions and accusations as to why it happened.

You said "not addicted." Don't weasel. The autopsy report says "an accidental overdose of the opioid fentanyl," not referring to any "build up of some kind". The latter is incremental, and not sudden and singular, as with an "accidental overdose."

Putting the evidence together, a singular and sudden overdose during a 'cure' process suggests he had a serious addiction problem:
