Prince has died aged 57 at his estate in Minnesota, just days after he was rushed to hospital from his private plane with flu.

Paramedics were called out to the music icon's Paisley Park estate at 9.43am and Carver County Sheriff's Department confirmed that there had been a fatality.

A forensics team and a medical examiner are at the scene.

Prince - full name Prince Rogers Nelson - was rushed to hospital from his private plane six days ago with flu symptoms.

They are dropping like flies!   Always liked Prince's music.

The hugely popular and acclaimed musician Prince has died at his home in Minnesota at the age of 57, his publicist has said.

Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate earlier on Thursday, US media reported. An investigation is underway.

Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times.

He sold more than 100 million records during his career.

A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.

In 2004, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame.

Last week he was rushed to hospital hours after performing on stage, but was soon released.

Not being arsey btw, but "flu like symptoms" just means the same symptoms you'd associate with flu but you can have those symptoms with a dozens of other diseases and illnesses

He was some artist and seemed to be a very honest person. This death is really upsetting as much as Robbie Williams.

Yep. I just looked at the list of people who've died this year....it averages 3-4 a month

He died in an elevator. Sounds like his immune system was seriously compromised and if he did have flu, then it could kill him if he had underpinning health issues.

He was a devote Jehovah Witness and didn't do drugs - prayed regularly - gave thanks to his GOD at all times and didn't let people get too close because of TRUST issues.

At one point, Prince even leans backwards into the audience while continuing the solo.
He ends the performance by throwing his guitar into the air in front of him as his final notes ring out.

A BAD  dose of a serious flu strain (like the 'Spanish Flu' back in the early 20th century, for example..) usually takes 2 or 3 weeks to kill people;

I WILL be interested in hearing/ reading the results of his autopsy -- I wouldn't be surpised if the actual cause of death is listed as something like heart failure, heart attack or stroke.

APPARENTLY, there are rumours doing the rounds today, that it was a prescription drug overdose (or bad reaction?) that he was treated for last week...

HOWEVER, even if those rumours did turn out to be true -- and rumours are still all that they are at the moment -- then he should have been dead last week..   And not just yesterday.

SO, while these different reports (such as 'flu and prescription drugs) may have been "contributing factors", it seems to be still be highly unlikely that they actually killed him.

Didn't know that about him.  Pretty certain a seizure wouldn't show in an autopsy though, so if that was the reason we might never know.

For the record he did used to take drugs, he later converted to religion.

Not that i reckon that is it.

He may just have had a weak heart and only sadly now this showed up lethally by his death
