Do we want to add a new moderator?

There's been talk of adding a new one, and now we're actually down one because Lurker has asked to become a regular member. So, Korben had the idea that we could nominate new admins here; let's say that it ends 72 hours from now, and of course you can only nominate one person. If you've been nominated but want to take yourself out of consideration, make a note of it in this thread.

At the end of the nomination period, the admin team will pick another admin. I was going to make that a democratic vote but decided that we have to make sure we're giving that much power to someone the admin team trusts as well.

So, here we go

I nominate Cass

but not sure if that helps for the Uk time zone

A moderator has to be neutral, some one who hates certain posters is not a good idea!

so who then Nicko?

I think Cass and others can be adult enough to separate moderating and personal opinion.

I think Cass would be good but she is US so not sure if that helps..
Other wise Eddie and Sphinx seem like they could be good too.

Veya is already a mod and few would question his ability, he may dislike some posters but that has never stopped him being a fair moderator which is this most important thing.

I'd nominate Cass too, or Eddie to be a mod.

My vote goes to Cass too

I nominate sphinx or didge: both fair and impartial, Cass would be great but she's not "hard" enough (she knows what I mean lol) and also doesn't want to do it.

But tbh Ben in some ways it should be up to you and the other mods if you ask me, that's the best way.

This call for a new mod stems in part from Phill`s actions who posted abuse in the middle of the night when most people are not on

so that offending posts can be removed in short order
as various complaints were made as to the time it took

So to meet  these concerns whoever it is "made up" needs to be a night bird (uk time) with no alleged "ties" to any other forum

i am afraid no such person exists

When one group  or another complain about bias or being in a gang then the shit hits the fan again

Take the frequent accusations against IRN as an example or me or victor all accused of conspiracy and bias
And being members of some fictitious gang or Kabal

when nothing could have been further from the truth did that matter

No, of course it didn`t if you don't see it there way your in a gang and support the "target" no matter what

Even to hear the amount of accusations against BENs fairness or bias  a guy who did not know any of us has been astounding

What we need is mods that are prepared to moderate EVERY member of the forum.
There should be no need for locked threads etc because any trouble should be nipped in the bud .

Well, any threats of violence, any threat to bring the forum down and any personal details - and enforce the rule against EVERY member of the forum.

I'm quite happy for anyone to be a mod because most people do act responsibly when they hold that position. eddie and didge were mods on the early ADO forums and so were drinky and Alakaka and despite what the last two have contributed on here I never once doubted their fairness or sincerity in the way they conducted themselves as mods.
For reasons I gave on the other thread about time allocation I'm quite happy to stand down and allow someone with more time to take over and any of the current members that I have just mentioned would be fine with me.
I's make a suggestion that nicko would would be a good choice as a mod. I've never seen him dish out any unwarranted abuse and he's here a lot. He's an old hand with a lot of life experiences behind him and he does represent a RW sort of element which has been lacking.

Just my thoughts.

You've got a point about nicko - unlike most others who have been nominated (including nominating each other - eddie/didge) i haven't seen nicko throw any abuse.

Some even believe the old git is a right winger - can't see it myself though.

And I will reiterate: I am in favour of Ben and moderation team choosing a new moderator then people can't moan lol

No need for anyone to step down, all we need is some ladies to add to the team for balance, as Cass and Sphinx do not want the roles as stated yesterday, then pick from Eddie, Gerber, Nems, FTL etc.

How immature, as I do not even want to be a mod, as I stated, I offered to only help out to those banned and had no wish to moderate members on here, so it may help if you read through threads, as stated I was asked once before to become a mod and turned it down because I did not want Ben to have greif, so I suggest you learn to move on and grow up

Of course there is other ways, when I was a mod on ADO it was agreed to have a limitation on what I would help out with, in fact on the net forum, Sphinx started, the mods had different levels, so you really have no idea, as anything is possible.

Ben, I think you shold take a step back and think about why we are even discussing this.   There was an incident, you dealt with it in under an hour.   Now, I know it wasn't pleasant for Eddie, but dealing with something in under an hour in mod terms on any board is pretty damn quick.   You could have 50 mods and have a point when none of them are on.

After that, it appears people did a lot of whipping up about a new mod being added.   Why?   It was dealt with efficiently and quickly.    The fact Lurker has stepped down doesn't mean you need another.   In my view this is a storm in a teacup, albeit not a nice teacup for Eddie and you simply do not need anyone else and I cannot think of many people who, if they were appointed to mod, would not make that teacup grow a lot larger.

As stated already I do not even want to be a mod, again check and read all posts before you answer it will help save time from you making errors!
Again this place needs some female mods, as more mods will help where we have two problematic ex members, that there will be more chances then of a mod being online. There is no need for any of the other to resign, but as seen, some are just not on here often, but when they are also help out very well.
Thus it makes sense to add some more, also as females so there is balance to the admin team

No offence, but I've never seen the current mods do anything - except maybe lock one or two threads. Lurker didn't do any modding anyway. If you want someone to be here when the likes of Phil go on the rampage, you need someone who's up late (British time).
