This rings so true! What did happen to the music and why is it now, all about sex?

What a shame. I used to love the song 'Video killed the radio star.' I remember asking my mum what the lyrics meant abd her telling me.

I prefer to have a video as you get the emotions of the singer added to the effects of the song. Its one thing to hear a great song, but its that more powerful, if of course the singer can excel at captivating the audiance. Also some music videos are brilliant and some are a great laugh, some even add and make the song miles better.

That's insane. The right-wingers who run corporations are keeping people sedated with inane entertainment and working such long hours to simply keep their housing and get food that they don't have the energy to get out and protest. Hell, they can barely be bothered to get out and vote -- another thing the right wants, because the right tends to win when fewer people vote.

If you think the right stands for anything besides monoculture and the wealthy, you've got one hell of a flexible spine to get your head that far up your ass.

Victor has no doubt heard, so that is a tad unfair. He is just old school and I get that. Where I guess, most music today is not to his taste.
Remeber we all grow up in different time era's and will no doubt view differently.

I can't remember the last time I saw a racy video, but that's not really my kind of music anyway. I prefer authenticity to the drivel the right-wing corporate music machine tries to shove down our throats.

People have been watching people perform music for centuries, as it adds to the atmosphere and even more so when live the brialliance of the music.
It should always be watched, as its an experince in itself

Watching musicians and singers perform in a video is good but watching the shite that some videos are about....like Ben said, a lot of the videos that are soft porn or people strutting about are not my style of music anyway.

That is just again subjective based on your own view of videos.

Again whether watching live or them make a video can very add to the performance. Sometimes it makes this worse, but many people need video just to get noticed as they do on things like youtube, so on that factor it is a plus for many people

Video killed the radio star for many singers too, that didn't "fit" an image.
Michelle Mcnamus (?) won a singing competition and I remember her a couple of years later saying she couldn't make a video due to the fact she was overweight and no one wanted to watch them.
She wasn't my cup of tea, she sung dreary ballads, but her face didn't fit.

When I listen to music, I like to let my mind wander on its own...


Videos prevent this by forcing brain to process visual images too...

I am currently reading Rip it Up and Start Again: The postpunk era,  by Simon Reynolds.  It took its title from the song of the same name and is providing me with some great insights.

I think people follow certain artists and their music based on the false images they see of them.....Tommy would have a field day spotting all the airbrushing and camera tricks that make ordinary people look like sex gods and goddesses on video.

In my day (yawn) we could go and watch the popular singers actually perform...live...on stage, and we could also hear their actual voices not the digitally enhanced ones that they sound like on video.

People could afford to go and see artists in smaller clubs because none of them expected millions for performing....and I would prefer the true singing talent of Dusty Springfield or Shirley Bassey, who were brilliant live performers, than the likes of Katy Perry or Taylor Swift, who only sing in venues which hold thousands and are just a dot on the horizon surrounded by gimmicks..
