Britain Must Make £25Billion More Savings Says Osborne Empty Britain Must Make £25Billion More Savings Says Osborne

6th January 2014

My god, what a mess us poor young ones have been left with.

Surely foreign aid should now be the first to go?

Where would you save money?

Britain will have to make another £25billion in spending cuts after the election, George Osborne revealed today.

The Chancellor said he favoured cutting more than £12billion-a-year from welfare, instead of raising taxes or cutting public services.

Under-25s should lose housing benefit and those earning more than £60,000 be banned from having a council house, Mr Osborne suggested.

He signalled that the nation's vast welfare budget should bear the brunt of another round of cost-cutting.

Mr Osborne used a speech today to warn the country faces a year of hard truths in 2014.

Despite the economic recovery gathering pace, the underlying problems still remain.

The Chancellor argues that long-term recovery remains in the balance unless more spending cuts are made.

He said there needed to be £12billion of 'further welfare cuts are needed in the next two years of the next Parliament'.

In a swipe at both Labour and the Liberal Democrats who favour a mix of tax rises and spending cuts to balance the books, Mr Osborne said there were 'no easy options'.

He said rival parties opposed to more welfare cuts had to be asked: 'What public services would they cut instead? What taxes would they put up instead. Or would they borrow and spend more and risk economic stability again.

'The truth is there are no easy options here and if we are to fix our country's problems then cutting the welfare bill further is the kind of decision we need to make.'

There is a growing row in the Tory party over the future of pensioner benefits, with David Cameron 'minded' to protect them beyond the election.

Other ministers, including Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, argue it is wrong to give the winter fuel allowance and free buss pass to wealthy pensioners while cutting help for less well-off families.

Vast? welfare budget?

The idiocy continues....remove pensions from the budget and whats left, i.e the safety net benefits are UTTERLY insignificant

(and I notice that NO ONE on the R/W has taken up my challenge to prove otherwise  :/pwn://: )

Of course no even half way sane politician would attack pensions directly, the grey vote would wipe em out come election time. And i m not suggesting that pensions should be targeted.

what public services would I cut

the race relations body....un needed, there is sufficient statute law and HR law to ensure things in this sphere...no need for a "specialist unit" costing millions

HS2...unwanted and pointless (though I suppose it might ...just ... employ a few brits)

there are others but I cant be arsed to go looking for my list

on top of that

All football matches to FULLY fund policing and the necessary ambulance attendance

All late night pubs and night clubs to FULLY fund policing in the area during opening times
similarly they have to pay as much as is necessary to a fund locally to provide emergency medical cover in the area during opening hours

oh I have a list alright...a very long one

top of the list though.....get rid of 400 expensive, useless, pathetic, spineless wasters who sit in a certain "house" on the Thames and replace them with people who are there on the basis of MERIT, not privilege

Very daft proposal to say the least as you are selective over business paying for Police services whilst others escape without paying anything, where for example most problems are dealt with in a night club by licensed door staff, why should they also pay for Police when disturbances will be few and far between that need police involvement?

Race relations body is needed because there is problems with discrimination, such stupidity would allow problems of discrimination.

Why football clubs? Not Rugby, Not Cricket, concerts?
Why selective over this?

Medical cover, where will you draw the line, people who smoke have to put a down payment for payment problems in life?

firstly I'm NOT talking about the disturbances IN a night club, I'm talking about the collosal cost of having a substantial police presence almost every thursday friday and saturday night in and around town centers where these places are..Where do you live, you are either blind or live in the sticks somewhere. Every weekend is riot time in some places, its so common place it hardly gets a mention.

so...who provides the alcohol that fuel these idiots....thats right the pubs and clubs....so they should pay....why should MY council tax be inflated to provide the policing that THEY cause?

Race relations body is needed because there is problems with discrimination, such stupidity would allow problems of discrimination.

Why, the law of the land is now robust enough if used correctly, It doesnt need an over expensive body to oversee it.

Why football clubs? Not Rugby, Not Cricket, concerts?
Why selective over this?

when was the last time you saw a riot at a cricket match

Medical cover, where will you draw the line, people who smoke have to put a down payment for payment problems in life?
Again, I'm talking about the pub and club induced drunken idiots who need medical attention, a regular and costly feature of weekends for most A&E. The pubs and clubs fuel it...so they should pay

Good points regarding the sports events.

And as for riots - you don't see that many riots at football matches now, git, but they do all need policing.

Good points yourself and I agree - they should all be paid by the sport themselves.

1) There is hardly any Police presence even less than there is during the day, so that is complete and utter bull I am afraid. When working on the weekend it is no different from any other night, the Police still go about their routines, thus you are making institutions unfairly pay for something. You are also taking away the responsibility of the drinkers themselves, when they themselves are responsible for how much they drink and if get out of line should pay fines if drunken and disorderly. You again are making a business accountable for how people themselves choose to drink. What next making the food industries accountable for people getting fat?

2) It still needs to tackle of what there is clearly discrimination in this country, the latest reports on convicting shows a massive disparity between whites and ethnic groups for the same crimes

3) And how often do you really see trouble at footie these days? This is not the seventies and the reality is only the Premier Leagues could afford to do so, the other divisions would be bankrupt. Though again I have no problem with the Premiership contributing.

4) Okay point for mistook what you meant

What???????????????????? you MUST seriously be kidding.... where do you live...on the moon????

Then the law should be used correctly...
