Sith Lord Dutton: Double Standards and Hypocrisy
AN army veteran who tried to obtain a visa for his Afghan interpreter, whose life was in danger for helping coalition forces, was refused a meeting with Peter Dutton.
All the while, the Home Affairs Minister personally intervened to help the nannies of wealthy and powerful friends dodge immigration rules and enter the country without hassle.
Critics of Mr Dutton’s use of ministerial discretion powers say there seems to be one rule for his mates and another for everyone else.
“Dutton has fought tooth and nail to keep sick and dying children locked up on Nauru, but can’t act quickly enough when the well-connected come asking for help,” Greens Senator McKim said.
On the back of his failed leadership coup last week, pressure is mounting on Mr Dutton after revelations yesterday that he assisted a French nanny and yoga teacher to enter the country.
It’s the third case of him using ministerial discretion powers to intervene in visa issues involving foreign nannies.
In the newly emerged instance, his action followed lobbying by AFL boss Gillon McLachlan on behalf of his cousin — whose family are major donors to the Liberal Party.
The revelations have shone fresh attention on Australian Army veteran Jason Scanes, who tried unsuccessfully for several months to get a meeting with Mr Dutton.
Captain Scanes, who has retired, battled for five years to obtain a visa for the Afghan national who worked as his interpreter in the war zone.
“Essentially, when you arrive in Afghanistan, you’re issued an interpreter like you’re issued a pistol. You form a very close relationship and bond with them,” he told ABC.
“If they’re found to be assisting coalition forces, the action taken against them by insurgent groups or the Taliban is very, very severe and quite barbaric.”
Mr Dutton refused requests to meet with Captain Scanes to discuss the case. In April, the former soldier began a daily one-man protest outside his Brisbane electorate office.

Heavy-handedness leads to Liberals’ house of cards collapse
OUTGOING Liberal MPs are sticking the boot in on their way out, and exposing the toll leadership chaos is taking on the party.
JULIA Banks’ blistering farewell to her Liberal colleagues has further highlighted the heavy-handedness of the bid to make Peter Dutton prime minister.
And with it comes an indication of the heavy toll this week of chaos and political thuggery will have on the party.
The Liberals now are the chief villains in growing claims of vindictiveness against women, something which will not be missed by at least 50 per cent of the voting population.
The anti-Turnbull coup was, on the testimony of Liberal MPs — particularly women members — a strategy of bullying and intimidation.
The plotters, who eventually proved to have an incompetence to match their brutality, have been a disaster for the parliamentary party.
The critical point is that the amassing complaints about challenge tactics are aimed at the losers, not at Scott Morrison, the victor, and indicate profound grievances still operate.
Former foreign minister Julie Bishop has quit cabinet and might not stand again for Parliament, although she has not yet made her plans clear.
But she has allowed the interpretation of her decision as a protest against too-tricky by half manoeuvres which she considered unfriendly to her, in part because she was a woman.
Ms Bishop, one of the most popular ministers with the public, has pointedly left hanging her response to the basic question: Will the Liberal Party ever elect a woman leader?
Now Ms Banks has said she will not recontest her marginal outer Melbourne seat of Chisholm.
Ms Banks’ scathing resignation statement said last week’s leadership spill, and the standover tactics that were reportedly forced on MPs to agree to it, were “the last straw”.
“Most importantly, the people of Chisholm know that I say what I think,” said her statement.
“They know that I will always call out bad behaviour and will not tolerate any firm of bullying and intimidation.

Re: Sith Lord Dutton: Double Standards and Hypocrisy
Peter Dutton -- the X- gen' version of Baby Boomer Tony Abbott, and much more worse than the born-pre-WWII arch-conservative John Howard, scumbag Dutton is carrying on the grand old tradition of the extreme right wing of the Oz "Liberal" Party :
Hate workers;
Love big business;
Devalue our environment;
Love coal mining companies;
Don't care for small business;
Love property developers; Hate unions;
Want to remove minimum wage, unemployment benefits;
Believe everybody should pay for their own healthcare and education, irrespective of the actual ability to pay; Often mysoginistic and xenophobic;
Want to limit old-age pensions..
And what is most worrying is that the "Liberal" Party have drifted so far to the right, that nearly 40% of their membership were supporting Dutton as a possible leader last week -- just to prove how many in that party currently hold some kind of "political death wish", and seemingly want to be in opposition ?
