I'd accept him as one of the better Labour MPs and his speech may well have been impressive, but he didn't "destroy" anyone and neither May nor Rudd need give any consideration whatsoever to "their position" as the maniacally sychophantic and exploitative Socialist Andy appears to think.

It appears that the new immigration regulations, however well intentioned and in line with the historically proven wishes of the majority of the electorate, have proved to be a dog's breakfast and so obscure as to be open to misinterpretation. That was the fault of the Parliamentary draughtsmen who are no doubt paid large amounts of dosh in exchange for doing a hopefully competent job. On this occasion, they didn't.

The plight of the Windrush immigrants clearly results from civil and public sector servants and officials simply doing their jobs and applying those rules to the letter in what they believed to be a proper and legally compliant manner.

The whole thing is a monumental cock-up. It should never have happened. The tragic consequences for our fellow citizens of Caribbean ancestry must be rectified without delay and at neither cost nor detriment to them and their families. If compensation is appropriate, we as taxpayers have a duty to pay the price. They have given much to our country and I, for one, have the greatest respect, admiration and affection for the vast majority of them...and particularly the highly intelligent young lady from St Kitts and Nevis who was my chosen
PA for a number of years.


Having said all that, from what I have read, the apologies made and assurances given by government ministers, including May and Rudd, have been sincere and appropriately contrite. After all, it is absolutely right that a minister should take full responsibility, morally and legally, for the actions and errors of those in his or her departmental service. They have my admiration for that.

It is only to be expected that the Opposition will seek to exploit the situation and milk it for all that it is politically worth...but I can't help contrasting the contrition of May and Rudd with the determination of previous Labour ministers, including Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in throwing his staff to the wolves in a cowardly determination to "get out from under."

Rudderless totally floundering before the select committee.
To say she hasn't a fucking clue is being kind.
Not even aware of Immigration deportation targets.
Which every Immigration Officer is working to .
