Uproar in Australian Parliament after firebrand anti-immigrant MP Pauline Hanson wears burka to question time

Pauline Hanson, the Australian anti-migrant firebrand MP, has been condemned for an “appalling” stunt in which she wore a burka in Parliament as part of her push to ban it, prompting a rare standing ovation from MPs in support of a speech denouncing her.

The controversial MP, who leads the One Nation party, was widely condemned after she attended the Senate chamber in a black Islamic body covering, prompting gasps of shock from fellow MPs.

As she removed the covering, she said: “This is not what should belong in this Parliament.”

She then asked George Brandis, the attorney-general: “In light of the national security of this nation will you work to ban the burka in Australia?”

Mr Brandis responded: “No.”

During an emotional session, Mr Brandis received a standing ovation from the opposition – and applause from his fellow Coalition MPs - after he delivered a stinging rebuke of Ms Hanson.

there is assigned seating the were gasps of shock and disbelief that Hanson would stoop so low.

and the RW attorney general got a standing ovation from about 90% of the senators, showing how out of touch Hanson is with the majority of the population

from 3 mins is the reply which I think a lot of the islamophobs on here need to take into account too

That fat fuck sitting behind Pauline looks like a senator who lives about an hour north of here (in Port Stephens shire..).

(He represented One Nation at the Dumpster's inauguration shindig back in January, after the Trump campaign sent them a couple of tickets..).

Justifying their odious existence solely on the fact that a few thousand equally braindead nongs voted for them.

Never heard of her and have no idea what her policies are, but she made herself look pretty ridiculous really.
I don't think anyone really impresses people with cheap publicity stunts like this.

How could they know who was underneath the cloak of death... if she was covered from head to toe...?


And besides that.. its just an innocent garment of clothing that some women choose to wear... isnt it...?

People can't simply wander in and out of the Senate chamber...

If it hadn't been Hanson, it would have to have been another Senator, or one of their staff, to get in there..

In addition, as the Senators are allocated their seats, and Hanson is renown for silly stunts (like last year, she went snorkelling on the south end of the Great Barrier Reef, announced that was proof that there was no coral bleaching a thousand kms further north, and then declared that "global warming" is therefore a con job) the other Senators would have had a fair idea who it was.

Well maybe they thought it was a suicide bomber who had got in to blow them all up...
