15 Year-Old BackPage Prostitute Sentenced To 9-years In Prison

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A 15-year-old girl and mother of two toddlers was sentenced to prison for helping to rob prospective johns who responded to an Internet sex ad.

15-year-old prostitute sentenced to 9-years prison for robbing a trick with a toy gun

Latesha Clay was sentenced Monday, Jan. 11, to nine years in prison for robbing two men who responded to an ad on Backpage.com. The ad offered sex with a teen.

The victims were robbed after they showed up at a room at Motel 6, 4855 28th St. SE.

Clay wept during the hearing, with family behind her filling many seats in the gallery.

Also charged are Trayvin Donnell Lewis, 18, and Monee Duepre Atkinson, 17.

Police say Latesha Clay met the men at the door, and invited them inside after taking their payment. Lewis then threatened them with what turned out to be an Airsoft pistol with the orange tip removed. Police say the older defendants forced one of the victims to drive to an automated-teller machine and withdraw $300.

Clay’s mother and grandmother wrote the judge, seeking leniency.
Johnson said of her client: “She’s wholeheartedly sorry.”

Kent County Circuit Judge George “Jay” Quist sentenced Clay at the low end of sentencing guidelines but said she deserved a significant prison sentence because of the seriousness of the crime, with a gun pointed at the head or neck of one of the men.

Clay pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery and two counts of unlawful imprisonment.

What the actual fuck??? This girl is just a girl, with two toddlers at only FIFTEEN years old and a prostitute. The men who got her pregnant, the ones who replied to her as for "sex with a teen"......and she's being sent to jail???
HOW exactly is that going to help her or help rehabilitate her???

Is it me, or does anyone else think this sentence is just ridiculous??

FFS, why aren't the men who made her pregnant being done for statutory rape?   Why aren't the men being done for soliciting a child for underage sex?   Why aren't her parents being done for abuse in letting all this happen?
Why hasn't she been taken into care?    Just bloody fuc.ing WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's a child, obviously had her first baby at about 13!   Why didn't anything happen then?   Was the family helping her pay for the children or was soliciting the only way she had to make money, and what the hell does all that do to a CHILD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that right. Have you ever known anyone who has been abused as a child? You can hate what they do and understand they problably would be a completely different person if they hadn't been abused. You can think they should be punished, but know there would probably not have been a crime without the abuse.

And the girl in question is 15, and has two children - so she has probably been abused from the age of about 12. I sure as hell would not give up on her and I'd be prosecuting the men, all of whom broke the law.

Yes he had a horrible childhood and the signs were there early on that he was disturbed.....unsurprisingly.

But....when he was convicted of murder he was an adult, the girl in the OP is still a child.

Me neither Miffs...she must have been at most 13 years old.....they are toddlers and she is only 15 now, still a kid.

Isn't the advert illegal in the first place?

Why was it allowed to be published?

Did it specify the age as 15, or just say 'teen', which could well mean 18/19?

If 15, then isn't that even more seriously criminal to advertise?

And even bigger question as to why it was allowed to be published?

And why the person trying to post the advert wasn't arrested straight away!?

When is it ever right to hold people hostage at gunpoint and rob them!?

No one is saying the girl has acted in the right way, obviously she has not....but she is a child and has had NO guidance, which is why she is in the mess she is in.

Ignorance of the law is no defence....so every man who answered the ad (legal or not) looking for teens was responsible to make sure they were not having sex with a minor, they were looking for kids to abuse....they should be prosecuted.

The feckless arsehole who got her pregnant when she was 13 years old or younger should be prosecuted.......look to the adults when children act irresponsibly or illegally.

You are right , children copy and repeat the behaviours they see. Socialisation, and if that socialisation is violence and abuse then that's the behaviour the child will display.

I cant believe two men on the forum seem to overlook the men who abused her and concentrate on what the girl did.
Mind you the jury in the case did the same....she is in prison, where are the men?

Hopefully this case will go to appeal....if there is any justice in the American courts it should.

PS - he was as guilty as sin and the jury were as wrong as it was possible to be. What did he do - bribe them?

I wonder if the judge 'directed' them Sassy?....imo .no decent person would have let the creep walk free.

You are speculating that because she is under 16 with two children then she must have been a victim... and men were responsible... and 'getting away' with 'abuse'...

And this somehow is an excuse to get away with setting up and carrying out a honey trap armed robbery plot...?

Maybe she had a boyfriend her own age or even younger...

Maybe she was the one who wanted to get pregnant...

Maybe questions were asked after the first child and she didn't make any complaint because she was quite happy with the goings on...

And same with the second child...

And it appears social services/school/authorities were quite happy with her being quite happy and letting her get on with things...

So... although not ideal... all seemed ok with whatever had been going on... and she was allowed to continue with custody of children... no complaints raised etc...

What part of this is an excuse for carrying out premeditated honey trap/hostage/armed robberies...!!!???

She seemed to know exactly what she was doing... carefully preplanned...

Armed robbery is armed robbery!!!

Sitting there looking like a girl and looking sorry for yourself is no excuse or get out clause!!!
