Knife attack in Nice: Woman decapitated as three die in 'suspected terror attack'

A woman has been decapitated in a suspected terror attack in Nice, French police say.

Three people have died and several others are injured after a knife attack took place near the Notre Dame church.

French police have confirmed a man was shot dead in Avignon earlier on Thursday, after threatening passers-by with a weapon.

And a man was arrested in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia after stabbing and wounding a guard at the French consulate, Saudi state media reported.

Nice's mayor Christian Estrosi tweeted the attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar" several times.

"Everything suggests a terrorist attack," he added.

It may be only a few who actually carry out the attacks but there's a heck of a lot of people who sympathise with the attacker and think they are doing right. The head of some Muslim Council condemned the attacks but also said we shouldn't upset Muslims. The Malaysian ex President said it was right for Muslims to kill French people as French people had killed so many other people including Muslims!
When will they accept people have different beliefs and standards and if they aren't in a Muslim country they have to accept the customs and standards of that country and remember that other people can be offended by Muslim customs and culture.

Isn't it about time that respect was a two way street, we are asked to understand and respect others cultures and religions but how much do Muslims understand and respect others' religions and views. They have great respect for the prophet yet can't seem to understand that other people have great respect for free speech, people have given their all to retain free and open discussions, even criticism for each others religions, ideologies and ideas.

It isn't an excuse, it's just the truth.

If Islam made people into murderers, every Muslim would be a murderer.

Since only a very small percentage of Muslims are murderers, it's not fair to blame the Islamic religion. No more fair than blaming any other belief system, or followers of any other belief system.

A small percentage of Muslims only may be murderers but there are very many maybe even the majority who support what is done.
The Taliban and Isis did /are doing quite well as mass murderers , there's quite a large support for their aims if not their technique, although I doubt may who were forced to live under their regimes enjoyed the journey either, especially women.
The blame always lies elsewhere though, the women in the families of the rape gangs blamed the victims for how they dressed or behaved even though its a different culture.
The families of terrorists nearly always say what a lovely, kind, caring person their relative was before someone turned their heads.
Then there's the 'they aren't proper Muslims' excuse, yet check out the people protesting about an image not about someone life being taken.
'To take one life is like killing the world' - to paraphrase the Quoran, that only holds until you have an excuse ie Muslims have been attacked - doesn't even have to be a physical one and again its someone else's fault.

I dont know. Something can contribute to people acting a certain way, while not being the primary cause. Most muslims are good and decent people, but there is something about that religion that promotes violence. And that's been mentioned by other muslims.

While I don't promote being anti Muslim, I don't have a problem telling them to take a look in the mirror.

Basically every war being waged right now on this planet has Muslims on one or both sides.

But you do appear to be saying that his words have an influence on the state of mind of the typical Muslim.  I would have to see evidence of that.  The occasional bad act is incidental, both with Muslims as with non-Muslims…you can’t generalize from specifics.

No, I don't buy it. When you speak of "countless examples" are you not speaking of specifics? You can't generalize from specifics. In order to generalize you have to have summary statistics, and those require at least 2 numbers (percent = 1 per/100).

I agree with the previous Tommy Monk: “I've never said that "all Muslims are evil"...” I think the examples that you speak of are aberrant incidents, as likely to be found in the non-Muslim population as in the Muslim population.
