Bolstered by the renewed global interest in the Black Lives Matter movement, the University of Cambridge PhD student Melz Owusu crowdfunded to launch Free Black University. Billed as the UK’s equivalent to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) such as Spelman College in the United States, this aims to be the first initiative of its kind that’s free, centring Black students while seeking to decolonise the curriculum. Endorsed by Academy Award-winning director Ava DuVernay, Owusu has raised over £100,000 on GoFundMe since the beginning of June.

How would this even be legal?

If it denied students of other ethnic groups, would be racial discrimination

The world is going mad

Do you still have female colleges? Maybe you never did, I don't really know.

Seems like it would fall under the same double standard rules as they operate.

Black separatism has been tried, and it is usually rejected...mostly by the black majority, itself. In America, both the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam tried separatism as a theme, and there were few, if any takers.

Black universities like Howard University, and Tustegee University in Alabama, were born out of segregation in white institutions. Black students were pushed into such institutions, not attracted to them, notwithstanding that they turned out to be outstanding education centers in their own right.

Politically, blacks are actually quite a conservative group. It's just that white supremacists push them into having to continually fight for their rights. Other than that, a black Momma will always tell you that the rewards that white folks covet, are the same rewards that black folks want. Blacks are quite mainstream.
