Germany: Car drives into crowd during Volkmarsen carnival parade

At least 10 people have been injured after a car drove into a carnival parade in Germany in what has been described as a deliberate crash.

The driver of the car has been arrested, according to police, and local reports have said small children are among the injured people at the scene in Volkmarsen, about 280 km southwest of Berlin.

German media have cited witnesses who said the driver appeared to deliberately crash his car into the crowd, but police have declined to say if it was an accident or a deliberate attack.

Earlier on Monday, commentary on racism featured prominently among carnival floats in western German cities following the far-right attack in Hanau near Frankfurt last week.
