Plus-size mother-to-be 'is FIRED from her bank job' after her steamy topless photoshoot with her fiancé that promoted body positivity went viral

A plus-size woman says she has been fired from her bank job after her steamy topless photoshoot with her fiancé went viral.
Stephanie, from Texas, was widely praised for promoting body confidence after the pictures of her and her partner Arryn were shared online.

But she now says her employer has sacked her because they believed the shoot was 'inappropriate' for a 'family-oriented' company.

The bank worker, who is five months pregnant, describes herself as a 'model employee' and says the decision by Austin Bank Texas N.A to fire her was 'hurtful'.

Stephanie told Buzzfeed: 'They said I was topless and it was inappropriate and we’re a family-oriented company.'
She added: 'I was a model employee, I was moving up fast. I had a promotion within seven months. This one thing, for me, was the reason I was booted.'

I think the lawsuit should be predicated on her pregnancy, for which there are laws against adverse action.  There are no laws protecting "steamy, topless photoshoots," not even for "body confidence."

I'm not sure about 'promoting positive body image'. There's nothing positive about being obese. It's a health hazard, not a thing to be proud of. Once again some daft deluded woman thinking the whole world will adore her cellulite.

I took it to mean she was promoting an attitude of positive self images...that being fat is all right.

I agree with you that in the greater picture, healthwise, it's not all right.

I'd like to say that to everyone who tries to show off their bodies be they fat or thin, to everyone whether they like it or not, especially for me at least, the skeletal must have body fashionable today, I don't want tobe able to count and identify someones bones.

I'm sure the photos were empowering to her, but why did she have to inflict them on others?

There are findings that obese people have the wrong proportions of hormones in their stomachs but it has been proven gastric surgery changes this almost instantly, the proportions change back to what is found in people who are not obese and people who are insulin dependant are no longer dependant just one or two days after surgery. So its not always about lazy greedy slobs.

I've been various sizes as well which is why I have sympathy for some over weight people/
I was in school with people who were fat, we didn't hear much about obese in those days, if you look back there has always been fat people even during the rationing in the war years, its not so cut and dried as you and many others think.

This has nothing to do with her size and everything to do with people just keep getting it all out to prove how "great they look".

We seem to have become a really self-obsessed society.

There was just one fat girl in my year at school, and she was bullied by some of the other girls simply because she was fat.
I don't recall her eating more than anyone else, she did do less exercise, one of the reasons being she was usually the one sitting on the bench because she was never picked to be on anyones team, which thinking back was really cruel.

After Beyonce's pregnancy, when she acted like she was the Madonna with the big belly, and people in their millions swooned at her feet (It annoyed me so much I think I started a thread about it) .......I could not agree more.

But being sacked for posting 'It's ok to say no' on facebook is totally justified...

putting aside the unhealthiness of being that size and also the obsession all seem to have of putting their whole lives on line,,,,

the photos themselves were actually mostly quite tasteful (not the first one) there was nothing porno about them at all

if she's right and she was considered really good at her job and got promotion early then i think the bank has probably over reacted on this

no idea about any legal implications or where she would stand

A gastric band works because the person simply can't eat the same amount as before, and therefore they consume fewer calories.

It doesn't help to tell a person with anorexia nervosa to just eat, I agree, but the fact is that they're thin because they don't eat, just as people become fat or obese by eating too many calories. The cases where that's not so are really not very common. Fat people might eat for comfort, but the fat is still the result of eating too much or too many calories.

The woman in the OP, she may have found it empowering to pose semi naked wrapped up in her boyfriends arms, and if that pleases them that's lovely, but why has she felt the need to share with the world?

I should imagine if she has read some of the comments (even on here) her euphoria would be very short lived.

also, a time before all the hormones in agriculture

while I generally agree with "calories consumed exceeds calories burnt" logic. we cannot rule out other anomalies until tested since there is a lot of 'new ground' in the modern processed diet.

If you accept valid problematic reasons for not eating, I cannot see why you cannot accept vaild problematic reasons for eating too much. While there are a few people who deliberately eat to get fatter, usually with a weird enabler to help out, few people set out to get overweight and with the present climate who would actively choose to get fat, because once you are overweight for most its a hell of struggle once you manage to get to an acceptable weight to keep it that way, once the fat cells are there they never go away and just reactivate, most will put the weight back on and then some. Fat people if anyone bothers to check them out reoprt feeling hunger most of the time, so there is something wrong right there don't you think? That's not the way its supposed to work, you know - hormones and enzymes are supposed to kick in (which they do in most people who are able to control their weight/eating) to signal their appetite is satisfied, in a few people this response is known to be absent entirely and if left to their own devices would literally eat themselves to death, surely there can be various levels of this kind of problem?

The more people eat the more they feel they need to eat.
If anyone has been ill and completely off food, its normal when they have recovered to feel full after a small meal, it takes time to start eating normally 'for them' again.

That's why the best way for overweight people to lose weight is to do it very slowly, so its not a shock to the system.

Diets seldom work, simply change eating habits and move around more.

Of course you are right we are more sedentary and the food we eat is well, not what we should be consuming and the portions have grown, I get a starter or child's meal if I eat out but there's is a lot more to it than most people will accept.
Recently I had some weight loss, I was doing less than usual if I'm honest (pulled some muscles in my leg so couldn't get around) ate my usual stuff
so was a bit puzzled turned out it was a thyroid imbalance, which does affect the metabolism to gain or loose weight depending which way the imbalance goes. Its rarely tested for unless there are other symptoms so if this one or two as it happens enzymes being out of balance can cause this why isn't it possible others too can't have a physical effect of under eating or over eating. I would just like people not to assume every over weight person doesn't care and just stuffs their fat face all day.

I had an op for Prostate Cancer 12 yrs ago, unfortunately some was left behind witch appears to be spreading slowly. I have an injection ever two Months to slow it down. It's called Prostep 3.One of the side effects is weight gain. I'm 6ft 1inch and weigh in at 15 stone, a gain of 4 stone over the last 7 yrs, and I DON'T OVER EAT !

I agree that sometimes an illness or certain medications can affect weight, my mum had an underactive thyroid (and it took ages for her to be diagnosed properly too) Unusually she didn't put weight on, which she would have loved to, she was always too skinny in her opinion.

I do think that a lot of overweight people don't want to face the fact that they are obese because they simply eat too much of the wrong foods and exercise too little.

Yes you have - if you don't go back to eating too many calories.

Changing your eating habits won't necessarily mean someone takes in less energy than they use. Changing from crisps to nuts, for example, won't make a difference. Giving up chocolate won't make a difference if someone eats an extra sandwich instead.

Short term diets don't work long term, and a diet normally means a person changes what they eat short term.
