Trump's Fugitive Slave Catchers
Sanctuary Cities Won’t Be 'fugitive Slave Catchers'
Yahoo View Sat, Apr 1
Sanctuary Cities is a movement of civic leaders who declare their opposition to minority-President Trump's attempts to root out and deport Hispanics who are undocumented. Sanctuary Cities refuse to allow their police departments to help Federal authorities round up the aliens.
Historians may recognize that this is similar to a major issue back in the pre-Civil War days, when southerners deplored northern law enforcement officials because they would not participate in running down fugitive slaves. Well...here we are again.
Sanctuary Cities feels this witchunt is unconstitutional and inhumane. Feds are in the position of Fugitive slave hunters in the wake of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850:
Although no similar law exists with respect to undocumented aliens, Trump has threatened to withdraw federal funds in order to coerce Sanctuary City authorities to participate in his Bloodhound chase. Withdrawal of LEAA funds suggests Trump is not as pro-law-and-order as he would have us believe, if he would sacrifice such funds merely to salve his ego.

Wiki wrote:The [Fugitive Slave] Act was one of the most controversial elements of the 1850 compromise and heightened Northern fears of a "slave power conspiracy". It required that all escaped slaves were, upon capture, to be returned to their masters and that officials and citizens of free states had to cooperate in this law. Abolitionists nicknamed it the "Bloodhound Law" for the dogs that were used to track down runaway slaves
