I do know this song! It's fantastic. Also heard an interview with him; Slaid Cleaves is actually a transplant, which shows you don't have to be born here to love the place.

I too sang that in school, along with "The Eyes of Texas." We also pledged allegiance to the Texas flag, which I think is pretty unique in the states:

Yeah it's a great song with fantastic lyrics. I like it because the woman is flawed and that's what makes it real.
