Moral Dilemmas Empty Moral Dilemmas

You change the rules or add any little bits in to help you decide.
You answer as YOU, and only you.

First one:

THE ACCIDENT

You are an emergency worker that has just been called to the scene of an accident. When you arrive you see that the car belongs to your wife. Fearing the worst you rush over to see she is trapped in her car with another man.

She sees you and although barely conscious, she manages to mouth the words “I’m sorry”…

You don’t understand, but her look answers you question. The man next to her is her lover with whom she’s been having an affair.

You reel back in shock, devastated by what her eyes have just told you. As you step back, the wreck in front of you comes into focus. You see your wife is seriously hurt and she needs attention straight away. Even if she gets attention there’s a very high chance she’ll die.

You look at the seat next to her and see her lover. He’s bleeding heavily from a wound to the neck and you need to stem the flow of blood immediately. It will only take about 5 minutes to stop, but it will mean your wife will definitely die.

If you tend to your wife however, the man will bleed to death despite the fact it could have been avoided.

Who would you choose to work on?

MY ANSWER: as an EMT, my job is to save lives and I'd have to save the lover becasue he/she has a chance to live and my spouse doesn't.
I would whisper "I forgive you" to my spouse so that they died in peace - even if I didn't mean it.

But she's going to die. There's no ifs and buts, she's as good as dead.

I would tend to my wife (or husband)
You said even with attention there is a high chance she will die....so there must be a slim chance she may live.

Ok - Ok...here's my POV {feel free to judge my knowledge acquired from the many MASH TV shows that I've watched};
a.) TRIAGE 101 - take care of the squitter and stymie that blood flow
b.) without X-rays and the onsite ability to ascertain her eternal injuries...'I' am obligated to work on the worst case scenario first and being related to / married too can't be used as an excuse  Sad

So, I'm at your mercy Eddie...check my triage under standing... Pass or Fail confused

What 'RULES'... confused
You laid out the Moral Dilemma with the characters and one paramedic _____ we/me and I supplied what 'I' would do given my MASH TV viewing/triage knowledge; WHAT RULE?
What did I miss?
