Yet another boxer seriously ill in an induced coma in hospital.
We frown on dog/cock/any other animal fighting, but encourage one human being to beat another human being to a pulp....all in the name of sport.

Nah - it's up to them isn't it? Animals can't make that choice for themselves.

But some of the boxers can barely string two coherent words together, it's the only way they can earn money....I know unlike animals they do have a choice, but I still think it's barbaric.

Cool

DO YOU really believe that you can stop two boofheads who choose to punch each others' lights out, Syl ???

NOBODY forces them to take up that sport, do they?
WOULD you rather see some sociopathic hooligan thug like Dodger thumping innocent football supporters ?   OR maybe illegal and unregulated cage fights..

AT LEAST with boxing and other contact Martial arts, they have rules and regulations, and referees, and usually some kind of medical help...

MAYBE you reckon they should take up flower arranging, instead ?

JUST PERSONALLY,  I say they should ban Ballroom dancing -- is there anything more silly looking, embarrasing for the majority, or so pointless and unproductive ?

Maybe not, but they are encouraged for the simple reason hat they make other people rich

NOBODY forces them to take up that sport, do they?

Nope...but like you just said they are boofheads, most don't have much intelligence.

WOULD you rather see some sociopathic hooligan thug like Dodger thumping innocent football supporters ?   OR maybe illegal and unregulated cage fights..

Sociapathic hooligans should be in prison so others don't have to see that. Cage fighting like cock fighting should be banned.

AT LEAST with boxing and other contact Martial arts, they have rules and regulations, and referees, and usually some kind of medical help...

The ref wasn't much use in this latest fight was he?

MAYBE you reckon they should take up flower arranging, instead ?
Good idea....less likely to end up in an induced coma.

JUST PERSONALLY,  I say they should ban Ballroom dancing -- is there anything more silly looking, embarrasing for the majority, or so pointless and unproductive ?

Apart from the odd crushed toe ballroom dancing is a pretty inoffensive past time.

Most boxers can take a lot of punches, but it's uncivilised to batter someone to a pulp for the entertainment of others.

Someone died after being hit by a cricket ball recently... Rugby and football causes countless serious injuries every year... and then there's F1 and other motor sports... and a cyclist died over the weekend in a race...

If you are going to try to ban something for a reason... then you must apply this to all, (in the name of equality mind), so then where does the banning stop...!?

There are risks with everything, but boxing just encourages one person to beat another up.

Which is down to the right of the individual and not you
People are way more likely to die from smoking, driving a car, drinking etc, than from boxing

So how about you stop interfering in peoples lives

It's an opinion ...this is a forum, and boxing and it's devastating result of a fight has been in the news.

As for 'interfering' you are the worst poster on this forum for barging in with unwanted interference....leave the thread if it offends you.

You are trying to impose a ban on boxing, which is more than an opinion

Its not up to you what people do with their lives

They know the risks, thus its their choice not yours

So over stepping your authority, like banning m,e before for not believing a person's story

Yes I know your past track record

So you admit to making it personal now thus negating your position

Grow up and show some balance

No because just like religious people who think they can impose their beliefs onto others, I will rightly tell someone they are out of line as I believe you are.
Many people make a life out of boxing and the fact you do not oppose many other aspects far dangerous like driving makes you an utter hypocrite

Yes... it's an opinion... a totally valid opinion... and has every right to be held/voiced/debated as any and every other opinion!!!

Why do some posters here think they have the right to try to shout down/silence/remove opinions and posts that they don't like...!?

And be rude and insulting towards people for having a valid opinion that they don't like...!?

Its not shouting down but showing the hypocrisy of people in what they want banned

At the end of the day people have a right to do as they chose to do, when it is their choice where they do not knowingly wish to harm others.

I don't deny some want to do it Rags, some want to organise dog and cock fighting too....but they are banned.

People can definitely be persuaded to do things they may not want to...especially if they don't have much going for them re earning money.

I don't really go along with this view that people agree to things without having a choice. They know what boxing is, and they know they're going to get punched.

What about other contact sports...?

Like judo or fencing...?

In judo and fencing the object isn't to beat someone to a pulp.

Judo is ultimately about throwing someone onto the ground as hard and as many times as you can... and fencing is ultimately about killing someone with a sword...

Boxing is about the skill of being able to hit without being hit... if it was about beating each other then they would just be made to stand still and take turns at having a free punch at the other until damage/knock out decided winner...

Another thing about this barbarism called sport is the way people work themselves up into a frenzy when they see someone being half killed...or even actually killed as has happened.
Personally I find it obscene. If they saw two men fighting in the street would they cheer and jeer and egg them on? Well some might, but they would be the weak minded.....yet because they have paid good money to watch a planned fight it's acceptable. Isn't it time this brutal 'sport' was banned? 2190311264

Some people do cheer on men who fight in the street - if it was a fair fight. Laughing There are rules in boxing, and there's a referee.

Men have fought for thousands of years, originally over women for the best mate or all of them
Its an instinctive evolutionary part within men to fight
You cannot just take away hundreds of thousands of years of instinct

It might be if you are a musceteer...but in this country in this day and age fencing isn't really about killing anyone anymore.

If you are going to try to ban something for a reason... then you must apply this to all, (in the name of equality mind), so then where does the banning stop...!?

There are risks with everything, but boxing just encourages one person to beat another up.
I don't see it as a sport anyway.

Boxing is not brawling; there's a reason it's called the "sweet science."

Some people do cheer on men who fight in the street - if it was a fair fight. Laughing There are rules in boxing, and there's a referee.

The referee wasn't much good in this latest fight. The opponent of the boxer who is in a coma was advised by his own father to avoid his head as he was obviously badly hurt....the ref allowed the fight to carry on for 10 rounds.

Why didn't the boxer who was hurt give up then?

Yes I have practiced judo actually... and been through a number of 'gradings'...

I was just describing it to Syl that way before because it was the same sort of way that Syl was describing boxing...

Nothing sweet about being bashed senseless....and some matches do consist of pushing and brawling anyway.
