Rabbits

Took a stroll down the spinney earlier on just as it was getting lite, the rabbits are multiplying like free council house muzizles my blizzle fo shizzle.

Within 10 minutes I shot a brace and seen quite a few more running in.
I paunched them there to give Charlie a feed.

I will hang them until Sunday night and then prepare for a casserole on Monday to share with an old geeza mate, the saddle is my fav.. yummy.

i got a couple tues evening...but they were cleaned and dressed and striaght in the freezer...
I rarely hang game...I prefer fresh meat, not something half rotten though if I had a suitable fridge I might hang em for a bit...it certainly improves beef......

recon they will be a game pie...I got a pheasant to use up, and a wood cock...

so...game pie methinks...

to eat cold with cheese and home pickled onions...the sort that bite back and a goodly sized glass of port.....

Vic, years ago if you got a "left and a right" at Woodcock you could claim a bottle of Bolls.

Last year I got 2 x 2 on partridges whilst back gunning, all birds had passed me, got them from behind, was I chuft.
My mate was in front of me and missed, he is a crackshot 25 years shooting instructor, he quipped, 'he left them for me'.
This shoot puts down 2000 dux, 2 drives per shoot.
My son, a guest friend, myself stood next to each other in line in front of fir trees on the first duck shoot. you gotta be quick or they are gone, my son got 22, guest got 23, I got 21, that is a record for that drive and the shoot.
The secret is to have gun ready pointing up to where you think they will come over you and shoot as soon as you see them, minimal gun movement, wait a second and you will miss. This was the last stand before lunch.
The final drive was also duck, I got a measly 12, lol.

I was using Eley Impax, given to me by the guest 6/7 years ago, most othuz were using EXPENSIVE 5s
I had 18 fessuntz, should have had more but I swopped pegs with someone who was not doing very well..

That was my best day sky shooting.

25 years ago off work I shot 7 driven Muntiz and 7 Charliz on instructions from estate owner.

I use a Browning 525 30 inch barrels and most othuz on shoots have more expensive gunz.

I have the browning 725 hunter with 30 inch barrels

it "fitted" me straight off the shelf and I can put 300 rounds through it on a clay shoot and not feel any recoil ...one guy at the club suggested this may be because I'm just one big gel pad....cheeky sod....

I tend to use almost any cartridge I can get hold of for game...

atm i got eley high flyers and lyvale special game...both fiber wads...

and some that are custom labled for a local gunsmith, but are marked eley on the head stamp.

I have eley steel no3 for me ducks and a few eley alphamax 3 inch 46g BBs for charlie. (oh man ...you wanna see what they do to magpies at 10 meters )

our local clay club gets a fair amount of special buys from eley, via the agent...

the high flyers were from that...

not bad at £40 a slab......same price as the clay shells

Dunno about where you shoot, but my perms have cattle and sheep on ...so I will only use fiber wads. The ducks are at another place and no cattle...

Sheep and deer on main 2 shoots but deer are only shot if ill.
They are treated as pets, fallow deer, what a sight.

Have been through the rigmarole of different cartridges, use almost anything nowadays.
If I was on the Marshes I would be fussy but those days are far behind me.

mmm....marshes...deffo a "young mans game"

I do not do pigeon shooting now, can't be bothud with carrying the gear.
Done 2 roost shoots but not bothud.
