Grumpy Old Woman

My wife went into a supermarket today, I stayed outside cleaning our car windows.
I watched this old girl coming towards me pushing a trolley at a snails pace, she was struggling, almost falling over, bent over obviously in pain.
I asked if I could help her put her shopping into he car, she replied, "NO", I replied "are you sure", she then said "are you deaf".
I felt bleeding destroyed as I watched her struggle like hell.

She eventually drove off hop skip and a jump, should not have been driving.

The trolley lad walked over and said to me, " don't feel too bad, she does it to us".

Ah well., it has happened to me before.

I'm on the board of directors of a transit company. It's an old story. People who are confronted with the limitations of age often become disappointed, and even bitter over their loss of mobility and agility. They see any offer of help as not only a reminder of their fragility, but as a challenge to their independence.

Wait 'til someone tries to put you into a conservatorship or warehouse you in a seniors' home...takes your car keys away, or has to change your diapers. Very often, we don't do well by our parents.

Her main problem appeared to be PAIN, I could see her face contorting, not age or though she was older than myself.

Lol. I can sympathize with that. My arthritis can put me in a foul mood on bad days.

Anyway...who knows what scripts she's playing in her mind. You did the best you could.

Lots of people I know have arthritis, drives me mad at times, seems to move around ones body, comes with old age for most of us.
My friends hands/fingers have gone a hideous shape with it.

That depends on what sort of arthritis it is.

There are two types:

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA): a chronic disease that causes pain, stiffness, swelling, and loss of function in the joints. It occurs when your immune system, the system that protects your body from outside harm, mistakenly starts attacking healthy tissue.

There are other types of arthritis which are not related to autoimmune diseases or wear and tear.

For example, crystal arthritis - gout and pseudogout. Lyme disease can lead to arthritis too.

Seeing the words in print I realise I do know of such types of arthritis.

A lot of people with arthritis tend to just call it "arthritis" and don't seem to have a clue which type it is. The treatments are very different though.
