Durham University student accused of rape cleared of all charges

Louis Richardson, the former head of Durham University's debating society, has been cleared of rape and sexual assault.
The 21-year-old history undergraduate had been accused of raping and sexually assaulting one woman and sexually assaulting another. But a jury at Durham Crown Court took less than three hours to find Mr Richardson, from St Helier in Jersey, not guilty of all charges.Mr Richardson had been charged with raping and sexually assaulted one young woman in March and May of 2014 and then going on to sexually assault another as she slept at a house party in October of the same year.As the verdict was delivered he rested his hand on his chin and nodded.
He hugged his mother who sobbed: "I love you" and they clung to each other outside court.
Speaking outside court Mr Richardson said: "I just want to let this all sink in."
