Hope Solo, Ray Rice and duplicity in sports? Empty Hope Solo, Ray Rice and duplicity in sports?

ESPN wrote:KIRKLAND, Wash. -- It was early in the morning on June 21, 2014, and [US World Cup Team Goalie] Hope Solo had just been arrested on two counts of domestic violence. The police were trying to book her into jail, but Solo was so combative that she had to be forced to the ground, prompting her to yell at one officer, "You're such a b----. You're scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I'd kick your ass."

Solo, perhaps the best women's soccer goalie in the world, had repeatedly hurled insults at the officers processing her arrest, suggesting that two jailers were having sex and calling another officer a "14-year-old boy." When asked to remove a necklace, an apparently drunk Solo told the officer that the piece of jewelry was worth more than he made in a year.

Charged with domestic abuse, action taken against Solo by governing body of sport: -0-

New York Daily News wrote:Rice, who received a two-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy, was caught on video dragging his unconscious fiancée (and now wife) Janay Palmer out of an Atlantic City elevator after allegedly punching her. 'I've made the biggest mistake of my life.'

Charged with domestic abuse, action taken against the contrite Rice by governing body of sport: original penalty, indefinite suspension; reduced to two games, however complete de facto ostracism from the game (no team will tender a contract).

Shouldn't we boycott the World Cup for this duplicity, as we threatened to do with the NFL over the Rice affair?  The disciplinary actions taken by governing sports bodies have been without regard to the consequences in related court actions, the reasoning being that sports figures should avoid even the appearance of impropriety, as required in their contracts.

Now one can say that Hope Solo is the best goalie in the woman's game today.  But if league disciplinary action is without regard to criminal actions, shouldn't it also be without regard to value to the sponsor?  Do we excuse BP Petroleum for polluting the Gulf of Mexico, simply because it was a "great oil well"?

A lot of sports is racket-controlled.  Don't we begin cleaning up by eliminating duplicity and special treatment for special people?  It should not be who you are, but what you did!

but you see the thing about soccer is Who? FIFA, the national body, one of the other unions.
the bottom layers say they are waiting for a response from the top and the top layers say it should be dealt with a local level and they continue the song and dance until the issue goes away

NFL (like Aussies various football codes) is self governed so they have to take it and they have no other markets so they cant shift focus, what could happen is the US Soccer federation could sanction her and she could go off and join the European or Asian federations....

PLUS she is a woman, and they do get special treatment in domestic cases it is surprising she was even charged if she hadn't attack officers she probably wouldn't have.
