Katie Melua finds spider living in her ear

Katie Melua has found a spider living in her ear.

The Nine Million Bicycles crooner has opened up about the terrifying situation, revealing that doctors told her that the arachnid had been there for a week.

Posting a picture of the spider on her Instagram account, she wrote: "So I had a rustling in my ear for a week and went to the doctor to have it checked out this morning. THIS little fella is what they found!"

The singer-songwriter - who has released six albums, including her hit 2003 debut Call Off the Search - hypothesised over how the eight-legged creepy-crawly got into her ear, blaming it on an old pair of ear-pieces.

Hello Cass. I remember reading a story (fiction) that a clippie once entered someone's ear and he couldn't get it out and it disappeared. The person was obviously worried but imagine his delight when it suddenly appeared a week later when it crawled out the other ear. However, his joy was short lived when the boffins examined the clippie and found that the clippie was a female and it had just given birth in the last few days.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn later on that Katie left her brains behind the door when her mother checked out of the maternity ward after her birth...

P.S. FIRST AID for removing creepy crawlies from the ear canal : (this is the 'old school' remedy, so may not always appear in some modern-day First Aid manuals..) - lay the patient's/one's head on a towel, table or pillow with the inflicted ear uppermost, and slowly pour an inert oil (e.g. castor, olive or other vegetable/oilseed oil; or medicinal liquid paraffin oil) ~ or if not available, you could try soapy water, preferably using a liquid soap/detergent ~ and wait to a few minutes to see if the culprit floats or crawls out [cough. splutter, gasp !!!] before laying the head over to drain the oil out..
