New research showing abnormalities in the brains of chronic fatigue sufferers may help improve diagnosis for a malady for which patients have long struggled to gain medical acceptance.

Stanford researchers used a new type of imaging technology and found three distinct differences in the brains of 15 CFS patients and 14 healthy controls. The most remarkable difference, they said, showed a consistent abnormality in part of a nerve tract in the right hemisphere of CFS patients’ brains. And the more severe the condition, the worse the abnormality appear.
