http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/the-rum-puncheon-pub-in-kent-uk-bans-swearing/story-fn93ypt9-1227085384401

THE F-word is banned, calling someone a “pr!@#” is outlawed, and using the term “bastard” is equally a no-no. In fact, any swear word spoken aloud in this pub sees you barred.

Susan and Melvyn Wilkie, who own The Rum Puncehon in the town of Gravesend, Kent, in the UK, are unrepentant about their ban on the “loud use of bad language”. There are also no televisions in the pub.

“We get the odd group, perhaps people who haven’t been in before, who say ‘it’s a pub, isn’t it?’ but then this is our place and our rules,” Melvyn Wilkie, 60, told News Shopper.

“If they don’t like it they have the option to go elsewhere. It is a pub but it’s also my home and it’s licensed.”

Mr Wilkie explained the decision.

“I am allowing you to come and drink in my home and I have my rules — at your home you have your rules,” he said.

“Usually when you get swearing you have got trouble. If it’s curtailed and it’s nipped in the bud we don’t get any trouble and that’s why people come down to us.

“We wanted this to be a different place from the rest. I think it’s brought a lot of people out of the woodwork — older people perhaps who don’t want to hear that sort of stuff.”

I think it sounds quite good. I can't be doing with gobby men and women who screech swear words at people who are standing about a foot away from them. TVs in pubs are stupid as well.

how typical of the colonials peasants to consider that it is imposible to have a happy and pleasant night out without needing to resort to expletives and common, uneducated foul language.....

though perhaps it is aided and abetted by the liberalist progressive mindset, which decrees that "its good to be fick...wot"

If you want to have a more polite pub, that's cool and dandy, but there are more subtle ways to do it than this Smile

Well it's not necessarily going to be prissy just because people don't swear??
Most of us on here manage to have a colourful conversation without swearing??

Banning a TV from the pub is just commen sense! Never understood why you'd go out to socialise and them watch TV???
I watch TV when I don't want to have a conversation lol

as well as a verb, noun, adjectives, pronoun etc.....

through the years ive found different pubs that have different atmospheres so depending on mood I go tone or the other.Seriously when did it become acceptable for everyone to use swear words as part of their daily vocabulary. hey I'm not stuck up I can swear till I'm blue in the face but I know when its called for and to know when its not such as filling the car up, getting groceries, going out to eat, listening to a symphony, even taking the dog for a walk.

ben it isn't being prissy far from it. if people don't like their rules they don't have to go but I think you'll find a lot of people, of all different sorts, will go.
