Why The USA Desperately Needs a Wall Street Sales Tax Empty Why The USA Desperately Needs a Wall Street Sales Tax

A small Wall Street sales tax would have little to no effect on the size and frequency of financial trading because of the sheer volume, but it would have a huge positive effect in helping secure funding for social welfare and education programs. A financial transaction tax of just .01% on Wall Street would generate $80 billion annually. The 2012 trading volume for the Chicago Mercantile Group (CME) alone was $806 trillion, about 12 times more than the entire world GDP. In 2011 it was over $1,000 trillion, a mind-dizzying $1 quadrillion.

Split it three ways between Social Security, Medicare and SNAP. I'd love to see those coke addicts' idiocy funding some good, solid programs. :D
