I think he's fantastic, just got done watching the video and particularly the first part was so informative! He and the woman on the interview part were the only ones making sense, the other two were total asses -- you could see how afraid they were because they didn't let Jones complete one in three thoughts that he began.

Marx was an incredibly astute economic historian and I agree, people have made him into the bogeyman. He's actually predicted much of what we see happening in the capitalist system today, and cheers to Jones for being open-minded enough to see past the evils of Stalinism to what Marx was actually talking about.

Thanks for sharing, that was splendid.

Did you watch the interview? He put his point across intelligently and without getting riled by the (honestly) stupid questions.

There was nothing wrong with what he said and he came across polite and friendly.

Do you think toss pot a bit nasty for someone you simply disagree with?

I just think toss pot is a ridiculously OTT opinion to have of an inoffensive young journalist who just disagrees with your view point. There are far more smug tosspots out there is the media world- most of them work for the Daily Mail- Peter Hitchens springs to mind Laughing

So he can afford to be a Socialist discussing Marxism due to his book earnings and all the other strings in his bow, publicist, author, journalist, tv attendee at a cost, blogger, advisor, any more ............. he gives not a jot and could not live on what the rest of us have to......

They can spout about money and then sympathize because they have funds to do so......

In February 2013 Jones was awarded the Young Writer of the Year prize at the Political Book Award, donating half the prize money to support the campaign of Lisa Forbes, a Labour parliamentary candidate, and the other half to Disabled People Against Cuts.

He's a young man who sticks to his guns, has principles and works towards them and, as the above shows, puts his money where his mouth is. Funnily enough Gerbs, very much like Tony Benn, and getting the same reaction from the RW as he did.

He comes from a working class background, he father was a local authority worker, he went to high school and 6th form college, but made such a mark that Oxford offered him a place and he got his BA and MA. He gave the Hugh Wheldon Memorial Lecture last year, thats bloody good going for someone his age.

I think the reason people deride him is because he looks to young, but he's 29 and I think he's a young man who will really make his mark on the world and do his best to change it for the better.

Sassy you may be right re the reaction to Tony Benn in the days of olde. re the young writer award, still does not cut the mustard with me and your pun is exemplary................... Making his " Marks on the world " lol!

Me though can't listen to him without developing a huge desire to throw something from whatever sound box his voice is permeating. Miili gets the same reaction. So to avoid debris I immediately remove problem and turn off.....

The more the rwhingers bleat about how rotten Owen Jones is, the more it convinces me they are scared of him and his intelligence, oratory skills and enormous potential for the Labour party.
Reminds me of a young William Hague, but with more eloquence, charm and conviction.

Not sure whether he has any plans or intention to stand for MP at the 2015 GE, but if he did, it would take someone held in high esteem to beat him(a rarity in the tory party nowadays), and I am sure he would gain some rapid promotions during his first of many terms.
