A few of my favorite things
As a counter to Ben’s thread, let’s have the flip side...
The smell of old books
A cat purring
The smell of my granddaughter after a bath
A movie that makes you laugh, cry, come over all sentimental and you leave the theater feeling happy
A good deep tissue massage
Pizza/sushi/British bacon
The smell of fresh home made bread
Watching snow fall while being inside by a fire
Listening to rain and watching the lightening
When someone gets that itch on your back
The smell of fresh sheets that were hung out to dry
Walking barefoot through grass
Roadside stall full of fresh veggies and fruit and home baked goodies
The almost painful moment when you jump in a pool to cool off and it’s slightly cold
Babies laughing. Heck anyone laughing.
Working in libraries
A good old British murder tv series
Air conditioning
A fresh towel just off the towel heater when you step out of the shower
Internet friends whom you have never met
A good tuna fish sandwich with some cheese so mature it makes your eyes water a bit
The anticipation of a new book
Making someone smile or laugh or just feel better

This is nice
Fully concur with your purring, books (old and new), pizza, bread, book anticipation (constant for us fantasy fans lol) and internet friends
Gonna add:
Anything with caramel
Smell of freshly cut grass
Indian food
Having a truly awesome idea for a story...
...then actually finishing writing that story
Reaching the end of a great book (though oddly, this is also one of my least favourite things lol)
Enjoying an amazing historical attraction without a crowd (CAUTION: requires an early get up!)
British museums
A GOOD burger
A hours long conversation that ends on nothing like it started at
Quizzes
Hugging
A cool gentle breeze on a hot day (non-existent here lol)
The first sip of wine (after which it's just meh)

I have to admit, when I saw the title. I thought it was going to be a video of Julie Andrews singing the song.

Orgasms.
Pizza.
A child who isn’t afraid.
Raw, honest, not always nice, people.
Mascara running down the face of a woman who doesn’t care.
Someone saying “you’re right, I have no answer to that!” and not being afraid.
Alcohol and porn night / Netflix and laughter.
Women and men, (but mostly it’s women), who do something about their weight instead of moaning about it and making it like it’s “society’s fault”.
People who admit they aren’t always “nice” but like themselves anyway.
Threads like these because I get to talk about stuff that I like to talk about.
Oh, and thigh high socks, preferably stripey ones. Got a thing about long socks.

Re: A few of my favorite things
Just want to add one more thing to this, cos, it’s kind of important.
Honest posts. I love those.
Here’s mine:
It’s nearly 5am and my husband and I are going to bed. I am a little drunk but I want to say this...
I like people who see black and white as two colours, both different, but both, just colours.
I like people who see left and right as two gloves that fit each hand perfectly, but for different reasons.
I like people that see fat or thin as two different shapes but also realise that they are two different shapes and to stop waffling about why it’s okay to be either.
I like people who say “I don’t know...and the fact that I don’t know is challenging and disturbing to me but I’m okay that I may not know”
I could go on but I’m boring myself now.
Bed for me, I reckon, because I don’t always make sense to most people.
Laters and namaste. X

Re: A few of my favorite things
This is a very nice thread Cazz, uplifting and refreshing to not be focusing on doom and gloom for once. I respect your optimistic perspective on things.
I like the smell of warm freshly baked bread as I believe another poster said.
I like listening to storms and heavy rainfall when I'm snuggled up warm in bed.
I love the feeling of safety and being "home" that lying beside my sleeping partner provides.
I love poignant films and literature.
I love old fashioned daytime programmes like "Columbo" and "Murder she Wrote", they are innocent somehow with more depth of feeling than today's more modern stark and clinical mystery series.
I love people who choose to be kind and expect no thanks for it. They value bring themselves over being popular.
I love saintly ginger cats, who offer unconditional love like many pets do. Dogs would literally die for their masters, their loyalty and love is so great. Some cars purr on sight when they see their owner. I feel there is a lot humans can learn from the innate loyalty and love domestic animals feel, purring and excessive dribbling..not so much!!
I love people who are able not to judge others and recognise that human fragility can be displayed in many different ways. Even arrogance is an example of fear. I admire those who endeavour to be kind to folk who have never been kind to them. I admire their patience and their effortless ability to forgive.

Lovely post and nothing boring about it.
I particularly agree about people who are comfortable enough in themselves to admit they don't know. xx
Socrates view was such individuals were wiser than those who truly believed they knew everything.

Re: A few of my favorite things
rain on the tent/caravan roof at night
waking up to a sunny but slightly misty dawn
seeing bud break in spring
the smell of the wood after a light summer shower, or a damp autumn morning
watching the deer nibbling in the early morning light
watching the deer through my telescopic sights (yum)
that warm fuzzy feeling from 60mg of codeine taken when my joints are giving me hell
the satisfaction of turning a 60 ft over mature and ready for felling pine tree into either logs for the stove or planks and spars of usable timber
rabbit pie
the sound of the dawn chorus in the wood
the silence and serenity of the wood early in the morning just before the birdies wake to sing in the day

Have a green thing for that Vic, especially the last Paragraph. Even better if sitting quietly with Rod or Gun. I really miss it !

Sitting alone in the woods as the sun rises, alone with your thoughts, can be some of my favorite and least favorite things. Thoughts can be both positive and negative.
It's amazing how little time we spend without a lot of external stimuli any more, distracting us. Haven't hunted in a few years and hope to change that soon. It resets us as humans, in a way that most modern endeavors dont.

Got it in one Maddog, most people have never experienced, and never will, sitting alone watching the Sunrise ! Without being morbid, I'd like to die quietly like that. I'm getting on 80 years old,and have seen and done things I can never forget,I'm tired now.

I so agree with you Nicko, old chap. Like you I have a lifetime of memories and experiences and now, facing the winter of my life (I'm over 80, you young sprog!) I am incredibly blessed to live in a lovely house surrounded by woods and farmland and have the inestimable pleasure of being able to watch beautiful sunrises through my bedroom window and, in the evening, frequently stunning sunsets over a gently rolling countryside while sitting in the special "thinking corner" of my garden, a day's end G&T close to hand. That wouldn't be too bad away to shuffle off this mortal coil, I think....

Thank you didge. Glad you appreciated my drunken ramblings.
And may I add to my list...
My husband’s laugh.
He has this craziest, manic, infectious laughter, that always makes me feel alive.
Oh, and cheese! Cheese is another of my favourite things! How could I have missed that off my list???
I wish Ben was made of cheese....although he does share my enthusiasm for it.

Re: A few of my favorite things
* The intoxicating scent of my wife, and the many ways she looks at me. And ... other things
* The way my stepdaughter laughs uncontrollably when she finds something really, really funny.
* My bacon-and-egg sandwiches.
* The dance my dog does when I pick up his leash.
* My brother's Saint Patrick's Day parties.
* On that note, a perfectly poured Guinness.
* Sunlight filtering through the branches of a blooming tree on a warm morning.
* Days when it just rains and rains.
* Nights in Texas when it's still 90 degrees outside.
* Get-togethers with friends when everyone's in a good mood.
* Tex-Mex, pizzas with more than 10 toppings, and spicy curries.
