Teachers are to strike outside an ‘Outstanding’ school where they say pupils are carrying knives, threatening staff and fighting.

Behaviour levels are said to be so bad at Starbank Secondary School on Hob Moor Road in South Yardleythat staff have been issued with 'panic buttons' on their computers.

“We were contacted by members a few months ago who were concerned about the behaviour of pupils," said Paul Nesbitt, NASUWT National Executive Member for the West Midlands.

“They said pupils were coming into school with knives and threatening staff."

Teachers claim they are not being supported and fear for their safety and the safety of other pupils at school.

After months of union negotiations, they have decided to strike on Thursday June 26.

The coding for the images in the story that Tommy copied aren't being recognised...

So, you need to ignore (or delete, if anybody could be bothered..) all of those big blocks of gibberish, and just read the complete/legible sentences that appear in-between.

Anyway, will we end up with no teachers? It seems to me that they have to be nurses and social workers as well as teachers. Now they seem to be afraid of the pupils at some schools.

What a worrying time we live in. If youngsters are taking weapons into school what the hell will they be like when they reach adulthood....and how many wont reach adulthood?
There was a stabbing at my younger grandsons secondary school a few years ago, but that was a one off....it seems more and more kids are arming themselves with knives now.

I dont know the answer, supervision should start in the home but obviously for many, thats a thing of the past now.

I would say the initial blame lies with the parents who cant control their own kids.

Good evening Syl.

Parents are not in charge of their kids when the kids are at school... the school and the teachers are...!

And it is the lefty PC teaching style of being soft on rules and discipline, and focusing more on trying to be understanding and supportive of the perpetrators of bad behaviour, rather than punishing them, and failure to involve the police over more serious incidents ie carrying knives/drugs or over any violent/sexual assaults etc, again because of the lefty pc teaching mindset whereby the teachers would rather cover things up than involve police because they are more concerned about the pupil maybe getting some sort of criminal record that the teachers feel 'may be something that disadvantages the pupils future life chances of getting a decent job' etc... or maybe the perpetrators are disproportionately of a 'non white' ethnicity, and the teachers think it would then be "racist' to be seen to be punishing the non whites more than the white kids...!?

This whole current lefty namby pamby PC way of doing things in schools (all over the country), is what is allowing these seriously violent and chaotic examples of school environments to exist!!!

If a kid at school is caught carrying a knife, or has punched a teacher in the face... then the police should be called in to deal with them on criminal charges... then social services need to get involved... plus the pupil should be suspended/expelled from the school for the safety and security and well being of all the other pupils and teachers at the school, and which will be most likely way to ensure a sense of discipline which will only help to add to the smooth running of that school...!

Evening Tommy.

I agree 100% with your last paragraph, pathetically light sentences and the soft glove approach towards wayward teenagers is helping no one. I would introduce boot camps for wayward teens if it was up to me, but that's a different debate.

But...kids reach an out of control state because their parents/guardians have failed to instil decent values towards their kids from the onset... I am talking from way before they reach the stage where they are stabbing each other to death.

So I stand by what I said ...INITIALLY the blame does lie with the parents.

But, tommy thinks the sentences are too heavy if you're a Londoner. Lord help us if this strike spreads.

On thing I did notice, the head of this school is experienced in teaching primary school children not older kids.
Maybe the person in charge should be tougher. Obviously treating knife wielding hooligans in a gentle manner isn't working here.

Totally different, it's been explained in the other thread why.
So no point in carrying it over into this thread.

Arguments on the other thread are absolute losers. If you don't like penalties for wrongdoing, you shouldn't have them. Tommy doesn't like penalties for wrongdoing. Very simple.

I don't think you need to taught that stabbing someone with a knife is not on.

Teach young kids self discipline and respect. and you have a good chance of not having to deal with them stabbing someone with a knife a few years down the line.
