Looks like these are two people who should never have been near a gun.
Two police officers playing Russian Roulette in an apartment, one gets shot in the chest and dies.

She was married, neither of the men were her husband or boyfriend.
She was off duty, the two men were on duty. The apartment where this happened belonged to one of the men.
It's possible she was innocent of playing the game of Russian Roulette, the two men could have made that up to cover up what really happened.....she isn't around to put her side forewards.
It all sounds very odd to me.

Another male officer present at the apartment told investigators he warned Mr Hendren and Ms Alix not to play with guns and reminded them they were police officers. He was about to leave when he heard the fatal shot.

Those conditions and pay rates seem similar to what police could expect in NSW, Victoria and Queensland (before allowing for exchange rates..).

Down here, though, our local police are a division within the state police --  we don't have separate police forces. Just each state (6) and territory (2), plus the Federal Police which largely mirrors your FBI in it's jurisdiction..

Watching those reports of police shootings over there, there often seems to be big differences between your bigger police forces (e.g. California, New York, Texas..) and many of those mid-western and southern regions.
