A quarter of millennials believe depression is normal in older age and two in five 18 to 24-year-olds think dementia is inevitable, a study claims. Half of women and a quarter of men say they feel pressure to stay looking young, while two-thirds of the public have no friends with an age gap of 30 years or more. Attitudes to ageing and older people are nearly three times more positive among those from black ethnic backgrounds.

The report by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), in partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, evaluated ageist attitudes across 12 areas of life.

Basketball

Unfortunately for surveys like that, a lot of those "18 to 24" year old 'millenials'  are a bunch of mollycoddled, braindead and over-drugged know-nothing fools who wouldn't "know their arses from their elbows", let alone knowing anything about older people...

In many ways, the actual intelligence, general knowledge and self-awareness of many 'millenials' seems to be more reminiscent of the 10 to 15 year old sub-group of previous generations, rather than any former "18 to 24" year-old demographics..

I think the word you are looking for mate, is a generation that has been basically mollycoddled.

Well, I can't recall having friends (on a regular going out basis) that were 30 years or more older than me. I knew a lot of people older than me who were family or friends of my parents that we had regular contact with, which I suppose you could say were friends. As children we did have contact with people of all ages due to family friends and neighbours who were auntie or uncle this or the other even if not actually related. We came across a cross section of ages
because that was the make up of the community.

the great irony that an Ageist Article Demonising Millennials (even though Millennials are 35 year old now NOT 18 year olds !!!) by a bunch of old fuddy duddies proving millennial attitudes towards to old to be completely consistent with the attitudes the old deserve through their own attitudes and actions.

Cause they weren't the stereotypical Bloody Selfish Baby Boomers that having raped the world and robbed future generations proceed to blame everyone but themselves. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Suspect

More of the ridiculous millenial/Z'gen/Y'gen faux angst bullshit claim trying to blame the "Babyboomers" for their own selfish problems and hangups...

Pity those fuckups making those lying claims don't have any genuine evidence to support their lying shit..

Some real facts :

* Those wbo really fucked the world over were born during the couple of centuries prior to WWII.

* Some 80+% of my generation are simply average struggling workers, with little say in what financiers, corporatists, developers and their pet pollies do to the economy..

* Housing in city areas like Sydney, London and New York were already largely out of the range of average buyers well before my generation e tered the market.

* Many of the property speculators, developers and "flippers" out there are in their 30s and 40s -- often driving prices up out of the reach of babyboomers just as often as millenials..

Idea

Millenials aren't just one age, but a generation...

If a "millenial" is described as starting with that lot who were "coming of age" (i.e. turning 18, and able to vote..) in 2000/'01, then the whole generation should be considered as those aged between 35/36 and 18..

With the next generation being those now aged under 18, that survey should also have looked at the 25 --> 35 demographic as well.

did you just realise that I'm a millennial/gen Y?

I think the generation should be split,
Gen Y is still old enough to remember the world before the internet and Computerised everything, our childhoods still were old fashioned, pre-globalised, hill shepherd simplicity. where ideas like 'work hard and you get ahead' weren't laughably untrue.
Millennials grew up with computerised everything, globalised internet driven inter-connected world. they had smart phones and social media before they were 20.
