Moggy! Moggy! Moggy! Out! Out! Out! Tory cat in pet contest vote-rigging scandal

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is running an online Purr Minister competition to raise funds and attract publicity - but one right-wing cat is under suspicion

Fur is flying in Westminster over claims of cheating in a beauty contest for MPs’ CATS.

London’s Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is running an online Purr Minister competition to raise funds and attract publicity.

But contestants became suspicious when Tory MP Sheryll Murray’s cat Bosun clawed in 30,000 votes in just seven hours – or 70 a minute. It works out as 70.6% of the total votes cast.

Labour’s Andrew Gwynne, who withdrew his pet Jude in protest on Friday, said: “I think there has been vote-rigging. It is not fair – it is against the spirit of it.”

Mr Gwynne said an IT worker friend told him someone may have used computer trickery to bombard the charity’s site with votes for Bosun.

When he told daughter Maisie, 12, she said: “Cheating is wrong.”

Ms Murray declined to comment but her office manager Bob Davidson said: "Obviously there have been dirty tricks.

"It could have been an opponent trying to frame her.”

Well thanks to the Daily Mirror, fine paper that it is, the cats out of the bag so to speak.

I'm glad that the really important issues are discussed on here as well as trivia.

This was meant as a lighthearted thread to bring about a wee bit of humour but I can see that it has touched a raw nerve so I'll respond to your post in kind.
