Opt out or opt in?
First topic message reminder :
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/please-save-life-prime-minister-10738835
"Schoolboy Max Johnson has made an impassioned plea to Theresa May over his desperate need for a new heart, urging the PM: “Please change the law to save me.”
The nine-year-old, who made the emotional appeal last night, has been waiting six months for a donor as he has an enlarged heart and relies on a tiny pump in his chest to keep him alive.
The Mirror is calling on the Government to change the law on organ donation so that people are automatically potential organ donors unless they opt out, to save thousands of extra lives."

I'd like to donate my whole body to medical science. I quite like the idea of handsome doctors "exclaiming" over my body....
I read a book once (forgot the title) and the main characters were students in a dissecting lab. They named all the corpses and got quite attached to them as they dissected bits and pieces of their bodies....though they were also quite critical of fat or ugly corpses.
Apparently. unless the face is being disected its covered, to give the dead person some respect.....not sure if that's 100% true though.
I think that sounds comforting - that the students get attached. Perhaps it's not entirely true, but I'd like to think so.

I think so too....I just hope my corpse is still in pretty good nick so they don't make fun.
On second thoughts....will I care?

Speak for yourself
I think if anything I've got can help someone live, they're welcome to it. Can't take your body with you.

Re: Opt out or opt in?
In this materialistic world i think we need to strike a bargain over this.....
IF you leave your organs for donation/research
then for every organ so used you should get a 10% reduction in death duties.....
(I dont see too many relatives complaining then)

Its a bit like selling your organs for cash...which some people have done whilst still alive.
I don't like the sound of it.

Re: Opt out or opt in?
The law could soon be changed to the Opt out system. Everyone slowly dying because they desperately need a new organ must be praying it happens sooner rather than later.

"England could follow Scotland and Wales by moving to an “opt out” system of organ donation, Downing Street has indicated.
Theresa May’s spokesperson said that the Government was “keeping a close eye” on the new policy enacted by the devolved governments to see whether it boosted donation rates."

That's the way I feel about all healthcare. Insurance is essentially a bet where all the odds are on the house. Can you imagine going in to Las Vegas and laying your liver down on the craps table?

All parties have agreed that the 'opt out' system is a good idea....the law may be changed in the near future.
Hopefully in time to save Max. x

The Mirror is calling on the Government to change the law on organ donation so that people are automatically potential organ donors unless they opt out, to save thousands of extra lives."
An update to the story of 9 year old Max Johnson who was waiting for a new heart. His story could possibly help change the law regarding opt in to opt out.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/its-best-ive-felt-whole-11091078
"Beaming with joy, Max Johnson flings his arms in the air as he tells how his heart transplant has given him an amazing new lease of life.
After waiting months for an organ donor , the nine-year-old finally had the operation that puts an end to the crippling cardiac illness that led to him being rushed to hospital last December.
Sitting in his private hospital room, where the Mirror was allowed special access, delighted Max declared: “It is the best I have felt in my whole life.
“I just love the way I feel. It takes a while for my heart to warm up, and cool down if I exercise. It is really weird walking around without holding something with my tubes on."
