This is going to cause a hell of a lot of problems as no doubt the Italian authorities will want to start extradition procedures.

The legal eagles will make a mint and it will take years to resolve it all.

    1. The court case carries no weight in reality... It's a sick joke on Italy's part..

2. The judge passing his "sentence" is meaningless ~ the defendant was never there to defend herself, and has never had her "day in court" in relation to these new and trumped up charges, anyway !

3. HOW does Italy start any "extradition proceedings" when they don't have DON'T any suitable extradition agreements that would cover such laughable "kangaroo court" arrangements ?   

4. AS WITH Australia, Canada and Russia, the USA does NOT "have to" hand over any of it's citizens to any foreign powers IF it decides that it's NOT in their's or it's best interests ~ irrespective of any pre-existing or past "extradition treaties" !

5. NEVER MIND that the Italian "police" ~ some of the most stupid, incompetent and corrupt in the known universe (next to Portugal..) ~ couldn't even manage to find their own arses in a locked room if their lives depended on it. They have never managed yet to prove beyond any doubt, anyone guilty of this murder, and the local police chief can't stand the embarrassment..    

Knox's attorney, Ted Simon, said there will certainly be an appeal and cautioned that extradition shouldn't yet be a part of the conversation surrounding the case.

"It's really not in play right now, because first of all, she has another appeal to the Supreme Court of Italy," he told CNN's Anderson Cooper 360. "In Italy, under their system, you're still actually presumed innocent until that third, final stage."

Simon said that if extradition does become an issue, Knox has "very substantial defenses" that can be used.

"But I think we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves," he told CNN. "The bottom line is, there is no evidence. There was no evidence, and there never will be any evidence, and that's why this is such a gross miscarriage of justice."

Legal analysts debated whether the U.S. would send Knox back to Italy if Rome requests extradition.
It is unlikely that Knox will return to Italy to serve additional prison time because U.S. law dictates that a person cannot be tried twice on the same charge, a legal expert told CNN.

 

Actually she had her day in court, twice. If she chose not to return it does not make the case laughable - she was tried in absentia and convicted just like oh Martin Borman an was at Nuremburg.

As for double jeopardy doesn't matter whether or not she is a US citizen - the crime happened in Italy as as such she is subject to Italian law. US law does not apply.

If the Italian Supreme court upholds the conviction then extradition proceedings will start. If the US wants cooperation from other countries in their own extradition requests they should comply....you cant demand without giving in return.

Actually there is evidence ....that is why there have been 3 trials.

I don't see how all Italian police are corrupt...that would explain why a lot of them end up murdered by the organized crime gangs as well as prosecutors and other lawyers and judges I guess.

I believe that she did it, her body language and choice of words in her most recent interview are tell tale signs.

Actually, there was one original trial, one appeal against trial (i.e. not a "new "trial" with either evidence or nea charges !) ~ which the prosecution in Florence lost, and then this 'kangaroo court' "appeal against the appeal"..

* THE British Press Corps then take it upon themselves to declare Knox guilty, even before the italians acted "in absentia" ~ completely ignoring that IF it had been under British or American legal systems, then they would have had to wait until they got her into a courtroom..

* The Nuremburg Trials were an international war tribunal brought under special agreements between the major victors of WWII - it has nothing to do with any country's domestic murder trials !  

IF there ever was any REAL evidence, (as opposed to 'circumstantial' evidence, hearsay, rumours, and trial by the British Press..) , then WHY wasn't it presented in this "appellate" court case ?

AS reported in the story with the O/P, to quote Knox's lawyer after :

NO MATTER which way the British Press swing it, these "trials" will always remain a travesty ~ I wonder how they would be playing it, if the victim were American, and one of the suspects British !

LIKEWISE, I could just as easily provide similar examples of corruption for the legal systems in Spain, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland ~ all such great example of clean and honest justice systems..

IF THEY won't stand by their own previous extradition "agreements", then WHY should anybody even think that those countries should expect any better.

Do I think she was there, planned something stupid that got out of hand and was there when Meredith died? Yes
DO I think that Meredith had no idea that this was going to happen and had no part in it apart from being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Yes

I agree with you. She was definitely their and knows a lot more. I think she couldnt say without implicating herself.

The boyfriend was definitely doing a runner.

Terrible for Meredith's family going through this again

There are at least 2 people who do know the truth - Knox and the guy already locked up.

If either were decent human beings they would have confessed their own part and detailed the whole truth to give some sort of closure to Merediths family.

Not denial - more like saving her ass and trying to focus less on what happened to Meredith than what she is going through.....deflection is the word.

Her behaviour is certainly not what you would expect from an innocent - or even an accidentally involved.

God knows - I have met so many people on forums claiming to be relatives of famous people or people that are in the news at that point that I pay no attention.
