What Are Your Hobbies?
25th January 2014
Do you feel you are "too old" to have them now? Have kids got in the way?
Have you got to a point where you felt you could revisit the things you did as a teenager?
I've recently found astronomy - you must all try it - borrow a friend's telescope and get out there, it will blow you away.
So, what are you in to?
Keep it legal - don't incriminate yourselves

Re: What Are Your Hobbies?
No kids or wife, so I'm free to pursue activities at my leisure. I guess the closest thing I have to a hobby would be studying Spanish; everything else I basically consider part of my routine or leisure, like reading, working out, etc.
Always wanted to try astronomy; there are some amazing amateur photos and videos out there that make me envious! I guess, speaking of which, photography would also be something of a hobby, though I've incorporated it into my job as well.

Nice one Mr Catman, but that will make you depressed and ill - get out more.
You should definitely do it Ben - a few hundred dollars will give you a scope that will enable you to see the most amazing sights.
1 or 2 filters on there and you'll be seeing nebula's and supernova's. 50 dollars each. It's cheap!
Go along to a club/group where they have their scopes set up and you can just take a look for yourself.

I used to do quite a bit of art when I was younger - only touched on painting.
Did you watch portrait artist of the year on Sky Arts (I think) - amazing, but I think the wrong person won?

Lol, nothing wrong with that! Never tried woodcarving. Had a go at glass blowing, loved that, but obviously that's not something you can do in the house! Love pottery as well but don't get to do it anymore.

Had a mis-spent middle age playing snooker Nicko, much better than pool. Could you get somone to take you fishing? Nothing wrong with reading, takes you right out of yourself.

I've always wanted to have a go at making glass. Thinking of trying stained glass. It'll all have to wait till the summer though, I've got no energy for anything at the moment with this bloody awful weather.Sassy wrote:Tess. wrote:Horseriding, writing, woodcarving, tarot card reading, DIY, growing veg, and pissing people off on forums.

Gets you down doesn't it. When I'm not too tired I love to walk our dog on the water meadows (they have lots of seats luckily), but they are so boggy as the moment, end up having to bath the dog when he gets back, and that's exhausting. Have a friend that does stained glass, she makes some wonderful stuff.

Haven't got Sky Andy, so I didn't. But I live in a town that is very big on art, and there are always exhibitions on. I like experimenting quite a lot, mostly with acrylics, oils just take too long to dry although they give that lovely soft look in comparison to acrylics. Simply cannot stand using water colours, to me they work the colours the wrong way round, although you can use acrylics the same way as water colours if you dilute them.

I know that Quill is a keen fan of American Football ~ as well as those members commenting on the Super Bowl this week..
I never played any football outside of school sports and a couple of "social" games myself, however :
Around here Soccer and Rugby League are the most popular football codes.. My close family are mostly a 'soccer family', (while those friends who did play footy were split between the two).
Aussie Rules football dominates in the southern states ~ Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Rugby Union is currently the #4 footy code in Oz, sometimes it has been #3 for a while..
I played tons of footbal(soccer) in earlier years but I just fell in love with American football, it is just so skillful and tactical, its like chess but man to man and team to team just love it and when you bring on the BOOM their is nothing like it.
Aussie rules is just crazy, i've watched it a few times and their doesn't seem to be many rules a very physical game.
