P.G. & E. about to shut off our energy, due to fire danger
It's 4:40 pm, and Pacific Gas and Electric is shutting off power on some 1-million people in our part of California at 5 pm. See ya on the flip side.

Ah, good old California. Can't even keep the fucking lights on.
Hey, let's tax the shit out of gasoline and make people drive electric cars.
Then shut off the electricity.

Thanks, Lurker. The Kinkaid fire is just to the north. It has burned some 26.000 acres, mostly in the wine country. Healdsburg has been overtaken. The fire is at the northern edge of Santa Rosa, seat of Sonoma County.
As of this morning, it is 11% contained. Yesterday we saw two Boeing 747's and one DC-10, part of Cal Fire's fleet, dropping fire retardant on the flames. San Francisco TV stations have discontinued national network service, and are focusing on warnings, evacuation orders and which roads are open. Rescue centres have been set up around Petaluma and the northern cities of Marin County.
All due to global warming.

Thx, Andy. I'm ok and California is the 5th largest economy in the world. Fortunately, it has the resources to handle it--who else has a fleet of 747's merely to transport and spread fire retardant?
But my sister lives in the town of Sonoma, and these fires tend to chute down the Valley of the Moon (wine country) and Sonoma is at the bottom of that valley.

Canada...
The companies that fit out those Boeings, and also build the familiar 'Elvis' firefighting helicopters, are Canadian-based firms..
Australia finally bought a fire-fighting Boeing last year -- after leasing Canadian aircraft from one of those Canadian companies during our bushfire season for the last couple of decades.

Over recent years we have bushfires/wildfire seasons starting earlier and continuing longer -- putting the squeeze on existing personnel and asset-sharing arrangements between Northern Hemisphere (i.e. mostly USA and Canada..) and S. Hemisphere countries (e.g. Oz, NZ, Chile..) -- so that Southern Hemisphere countries have to invest in more aircraft of their own, rather than leasing or hiring for only a few months a year.
And to think, despite more and more unseasonal fires, more intense fires, and wildfires hitting new areas (like in SW Qld, and parts of South America..) that haven't experienced these kinds of fires -- we still have the denialists, corporatists and lobbyists out there, always claiming that it has nothing to do mans' activities; some uneducated idiots even going so far as to arrogantly and foolishly claim that mankind "will never be big enough to affect the climate and natural cycles" (even though it has already been doing so for hundreds of years..).

Acres burned from the Kincade Fire according to Cal Fire: now 54,300. Containment has dropped to a mere 5%. 94 structures have been destroyed, and 17 structures damaged.
Soda Rock Winery completely destroyed.

Canada is a strong producers of buses for the US. I know this from the transit boards and commissions I have sat on, and having bought several fleets over the years. The big over-the-road buses made by MCI (Motor Coach Int'l.) are built in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Micro Bird of Drummondville, Quebec, Lion Electric of Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, GreenPower Motor Company of Vancouver, BC, Wayne Corporation, Windsor Ontario, to name a few. But Airframs manufacturers are fewer, limited to US and UK. Donno why.
